The Cleveland Zoo will no longer be receiving a breeding male black rhino from the Denver Zoo due to a recurring foot infection among other issues.A search for another match for Cleveland's female rhinos is underway.

It has been common practice for the zoo to tarp off certain cat exhibits in the Primate Cat and Aquatics Building for breeding purposes however in this case it turns out not to be.The exhibit was tarped while it was converted as a additional space for the golden bellied mangabeys due to the fact that the zoo had to euthanize its female snow leopard.

Much better news to report in the African Savannah all three of the zoos female Masai Giraffes are pregnant !

Torrential rains being reported in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood where the zoo sits.Major flooding is possible.Hopefully all is well for a area which has historically had flooding problems.

I would have thought that his health issues would be all the more reason to have him moved to a location where A) this could be better addressed and B) he has at least a chance of being bred (which he has not had … ever, peculiarly so as he is the sole remaining individual of his genetic line and thus extremely important to the SSP Eastern Black Rhino).

Cleveland Staff is very frustrated over the situation ! You bring up two very valid points.

May 2014 update

Went to zoo today, lots has changed, here's a look at the new Zoo

Reticulated python off exhibit

Waterfall in front of Rainforest is off

2 new gharials

Schrekengost bird tiles at carousel

Yagga tree closed

The RainForest waterfall was on yesterday. The yagga tree was also open yesterday.
 
That's weird, I was at Cleveland today and the waterfall was on both times I went to the rainforest and the tree was open. Odd.
 
We visit the zoo twice a week and the waterfall and tree have both been open.However the reticulated python has been off exhibit again for weeks now.

Where di the reticulated python go? He has always been my favorite animal.If he/she died, I would be heartbroken!
 
The Stillwater Lodge (Event Center) will be the first project of the new 10 yr masterplan to be built.It will be located directly across from the new carousel and will over look the zoos Waterfowl Lake.Construction will begin soon and its expected to be open by 2015.

The zoo no longer exhibits Reticulated Pythons.

What happened to the reticulated python? I'm currently hoping he/she hasn't died. P>S: What gender was it?

Unfortunately yes it was a very old snake the keeper said.Not sure of the gender.He also said its not likely that they'll get another reticulated python instead they would like to rework the exhibit for a different species.Possibly removing the elephant sculpture.

Any idea what animal they'll replace him/her with?
 
Went to zoo today. Not much new, here's an update;

Wolves off exhibit

Snow leopards off exit

Hyraxes off exhibit

Schrekengost tiles are amazing, expect photos:)

Baby crowned lemur on exhibit

New food areas and picnic area at carousel

Gorilla indoor area converted
 
2 male Francois Languars have been moved from the Rainforest to the Primate Cat and Aquatic Building (Muellers Gibbon winter enclosure)to make way for the arrival of a dominate breeding male as part of the zoos SSP.

The zoos 2 Red Pandas remain off exhibit due to a low supply of the rabies vaccine necessary to exhibit red pandas.The zoo is taking this as a chance to renovate their exhibit in the meantime.
