Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Cleveland Metroparks Zoo News 2015

Those two exhibits will never be used as a stand alone exhibit except when they close off the one adjacent to the building for cub introduction. This exhibit and the exhibit to the north will be managed as one exhibit when not used for cubs. There is a large shift gate that can open the two yards to each other. the other exhibit adjacent to the primary public path is used as a stop over and extension of the larger habitats. The exhibit can be opened up so that the tigers can have complete access to all exhibits.

As far as the budget goes I'm not sure if it has been announced by the zoo or not.

Also, the small rendering in the corner was the original concept from a couple years ago by another design firm.

What is the deal with the exhibits under 2,000 sf for Amur Tiger? Is this for growing cubs or just "rest stops" while traversing the trail? Or are the smaller exhibits for the Amur Leopard(s)?

There isn't any Amur Leopards in the collection. I think they're just suppose to be smaller resting areas. Its a big space but not huge so I think they're just making due with what they have.

They do, may still be in quarantine or off-show at the moment.

Obviously the exhibit is limited between the upper and lower main pedestrian paths, the bridge, and the existing building. The idea was to devote maximum space to the animals but to still keep them visible to the public. Also, to allow multiple opportunities for the cats to go vertical to not feel surrounded by the public. There will be an arboreal trail that connects the two largest exhibits through the smaller exhibit. The exhibits will have a mesh top so they can have 24/7 access without worry from zoo staff.

There is a baby howler monkey in the PCA Building. Also Francois Langurs are in the former Guenon exhibit. The growing old gracefully black lemur must have passed away. The shark exhibit viewing area is undergoing some renovation. The cheetah exhibit now has glass around the viewing platform. The tortoise exhibit has a new inner fence to prevent anyone touching them. The fence goes only around half the exhibit area. Does anyone know what animals were kept here before the tortoises moved from The Big Creek Commons area?Mikey the sea lion also passed away. Black bears are in the former Polar Bear exhibit. The storks have access to all areas of the Africa plains exhibits. Wild turkey vultures have overtaken Africa. The waterfowl lake flamingos have been off exhibit, does anyone know what happened to them? Didn't see any sign of the 3D theater.
