Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Cleveland Zoo next project

I do not know why there are not exhibits in the homestead. It is a bit of wasted space.
I remember there being a small reptile display (I believe a Bearded Dragon?) at one point in the homestead. The other small animals were in the base of the Yagga Tree but I believe were phased out a few years ago.

Of the projects remaining in the 150 plan, aside from The RainForest/Primate Forest, I wonder which will be most likely to happen next, the new Cheetah exhibit or the new night yard at Elephant Crossing.

On a side note; the 150 has ambassador animal holding going next to the Rhinos where the Cheetah exhibit was planned to go, but that ended u being built in Australia, so i wonder if plans for that space have changed.

There is no order. If they can get the funding for a project, they will do it. The cheetah expansion is a cheaper one, but the tortoises will have to be relocated. It would make sense to relocate them closer to their winter home in the hospital. Maybe the tortoises could go where the cheetahs were going to go.

Personally I'd move the Flamingos over to the savannah and put the tortoises in that exhibit instead, since they would have a holding area ready.

They could move both the flamingos and tortoises there. They could share a holding building. They could keep birds in the empty exhibits or remove them for more seating for the food court.

Wasn't that front exhibit planned to be removed for a Lion expansion at some point?

I think so, but I don’t think that would make sense now with the renovated food court. I think they now would use the area behind it. Plus the tram area. It is in the plan to relocate it to the bottom of the hill.

I wonder how much demand there is behind the scenes for a new Lion exhibit since Akron got their new one two years ago and makes Cleveland's look even more out of date

This isn't offical (I just made it) but if they do use the tram space that seemingly doubles the lion space

[QUOTE="TigerValley98, post: 1459028, member: 5317" I should note that modifications have been made since.[/QUOTE]
What modifications? The only one I can think of is the Amabassador animals moving from Africa to Australia

They own the WRYWAS plant now. That will become parking so there will be adjustments there. It sounds like the 4D theater will be staying. The food court renovation is not on it.

I didn't think they'd be getting rid of the 4D theater. It also looks like the tortoise exhibit would be taken over by the Cheetahs according to that plan

They were considering getting rid of the theater when the contract ended. They decided to keep it. The cheetah expansion is why I said the tortoises will need a new exhibit. Hopefully down in the main zoo closer to their winter accommodations.

Yesterday while at the Zoo I was talking to a docent about the future of PC&A and they said that Dr. Kuhar had said there's "Alot of good in PCA despite its age" recently. Not sure if those were the exact words he used but that's what I was told. The building will be used to hold any mammal/primate species affected by Primate Forest being built and they could bring in more primates once the Gorillas leave. I wonder if that means a remodel the building is coming once PF is done.

Also, work is being done on the former shark tank. I don't know what's happening back there but anything would be better than a blank wall.

They need to redo the viewing area for the nocturnal area. Make it more appropriate for nocturnal animals.

Just left the zoo and got some updates on upcoming projects-
- Tropical Bears should be returning in June, with Bear Hollow opening July.
- No word on how many Sloth/Andean Bears will return
- Phase I of Primate Forest will not break ground this year. The employee I spoke to says it will happen in 2024/2025 at the earliest
- No plans to reopen the Homestead
