I have read articles that have been translated from German into English. Stating something about the elephant bull Sang Raja impregnanting cow Tong Koon is this true?
The calf looks several months old in the photos.
0:0:4 Amur Tiger cubs were born 6th November. Sadly 0:0:1 DNS but the remaining three are doing well. The mother is seven year old, Hanya who arrived from a French safari park at the start of this year and the cubs father is four year old, Altai who came over from Howletts in April
While I agree Koln has a good waterfowl collection,it is nothing when compared to the waterfowl collection at Blackbrook Zoo in the UK,which I'm pretty certain is now the largest collection of Waterfowl in the WORLD,and even the Crane collection isn't bad even if they have scaled it back a bit over the last 18 months!I visited Cologne zoo (twice) last summer and was most impressed (the last time i visited was about 15 years ago.) Being a waterfowl enthusiast i was delighted with the incredible range of these birds and saw quite a few 'firsts' including Orinoco goose, New Zealand scaup and Rosy-billed pochard (which didn't look real!!) Highlight was the superb Siberian crane that I went back to photograph quite a few times! I have posted a few photos but will add more soon.
New arrivals and births include:
2 Red ruffed lemur born
3 Belted ruffed lemur born
1 Bornean orangutan born
4 Asian short clawed otter born
2 American bison born
1 Persian onager born
3 ratel have arrived from the San Diego zoo.
I don't think the Orang group has been split on any of my visits in the last couple of years, but then I tend to spend more time looking at the Douc Langurs and trying to spot the hidden Tamarins and Marmosets within the house.Very promising news regarding the Ratels! Hope if we get some breeding in Europe we may get some more in the UK.
I wonder who the parents of the Orangutan is, I am guessing the father is Bornie, he seems like the most obvious candidate he already has two or three offspring currently at Cologne. Is Cologne's group split into two?
