I, for one, am really annoyed when places stop accepting physical currency.

I think "Exciting news" was an extremely poor choice of words for them to use right here; "Important announcement" would be a bit more reasonable of a statement for this.

As someone who prefers to use cash when possible, it is immensely frustrating to see many zoos move away from physical currency. I'm all about options and I don't see how going cashless will make anybodies visit smoother or more fun. On the contrary, it'll likely end up irritating people like me who prefer not to make digital payments all the time.

I have similar sentiments about zoos doing away with physical maps, but that's a tangent for another day...

“It’s environmentally friendly” is what they always say but in reality it’s probably cheaper and there are way more more options than that excuse.

Environmentally friendly in what way? New currency will continue to be printed regardless of what they do, and will be unless we all switch to crypto or something (which would arguably be even worse for the environment than physical currency).

Meant for the map part, but the only reason that Columbus is switching is that it’s very easy to manage than money, id soon expect to see paper bills go away and just be credit cards.

I was able to take a quick trip today and photograph some of the new zoo developments. I'll upload these to the gallery shortly as well.

Here is the newly converted Pallas Cat enclosure and the adjacent now reticulated Python enclosure. Pallas cat was a no show.

Elephant exhibit will definitely not be finished this month. Its coming along nicely but still missing a lot of details (most notably a door the elephants can actually enter the exhibit from :p). Apologies for the poor photos but the graphics covering the fence made it pretty difficult.

And finally the biggest NA updates. Below are images of the waterfall, songbird aviary, bear building, otter habitat and eagle area respectively20241027_163640.jpg 20241027_163450.jpg 20241027_164321.jpg 20241027_163536.jpg 20241027_163743.jpg

Also an update from today on the paper maps, the zoo is offering them, but of course you have to pay for them now
