Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park Combe Martin Wildlife Park Update

I'm currently at the zoo, waiting for the sealion show to start. Lovely weather and most of the animals are up and about!

Phase one of the Amur Leopard enclosure is completed, and it can been seen from a far distance by the capybara enclosure - I'm yet to see the two brothers that inhabit it however.

There are also 5 week old Hudson Bay Wolf pups which I have had a glimpse of!

Work has commenced on the old wolf enclosure, to be used for the capybaras as phase two of the Amur Leopard enclosure will take up their current space (I think...?)

So far, I'm having a wonderful day, and will be visiting Exmoor Zoo on the way home after the show :)

Does anyone know when phase two of the leopard enclosure is due to be completed? I haven’t seen or heard anything recently & just wondered if anyone knew anything considering it’s been 2 years since phase one was built

Still under construction doesn’t even seem to have the foundations in. Although I was lucky enough to see the pair up the hillside

New primate enclosures looking good. The old saki monkey enclosure has been knocked down and turned into a picnic area. The squirrel monkey enclosure has been made into one long one instead with a lot more height added compared to the previous one.
The two tamarin enclosures has been replaced with one bigger one instead for the cotton tops. I believe they used to have emperor tamarins aswell from what I remember, I don’t know what happened to the species here. I think they got replaced by the goeldis? (Correct me if I’m wrong). Then the bottom primate enclosure has been completely knocked down and turned into three enclosures with the goeldis and saki monkey one side and the red ruffed the other.
Two capybara in the old wolf enclosure however they appeared to have been separated the whole time.
Turkey vultures in the old gibbon/lemur enclosure next to the macaques.
Not really seen much progress on the leopard enclosure however looks like it would be a costly project.
Great to see a lot of updates and improvements around the park

Combe Martin has welcomed a new Black and white Lemur called. Eleven, or El from Blair Drummond safari Park. She is paired with Felix the male. After a few days the pair are spending all their time together. News from BBC

Anyone visited recently or knows anything about what’s happening to the lion enclosure? Are they going to get new ones in or turn the enclosure into something else? I managed to visit multiple times last year but don’t think i’ll get the chance to this year so haven’t been able to visit and see the updates.

Apparently, the park has been struggling financially, and it was only loans from the government during Covid that has been keeping the park going. In March the park was granted permission to build 15 holiday lodges ,with short term tenancy. HOPEFULLY, this will create financial stability for the future. I,for one, had no idea of their predicament

Oh thank you, I had no idea about any of this! That was really interesting! The park struggling financially would make sense due to the fact that building work on the leopard enclosure has been standstill for some time now. I suppose the new seal enclosure would be cheaper to complete and push the completion of the leopard enclosure further back. Do you know where abouts the holiday lodges will be built at all?

I think that they are looking to use an overflow car-park area, which would make sense if visitor numbers are down. Zoos in Devon seem to be suffering somewhat.

Apparently they are sending one of the amur leopards to South Korea for breeding and getting a female to go with the other male and one male will live there before his departure they currently have gibbons in the meshed over but next to the lion house

The park office was broken into on Thursday night, 7th September, and several thousand pounds were stolen. The thieves even used an angle grinder to get into the safe. The park has started a croud funding page to try and replace the money. This park seems to be struggling as it is, this is very bad news.

Confirmation on the park’s website that they hold 2,1 Amur leopards now with Luna, arriving from Thrigby Hall.

It seems to be getting worse for the park. The owner has announced that they are having to make unfortunate changes due to a significant downturn in tourism, soaring costs and a recent burglary. Until October half term the park will be reducing it's opening days to reduce its overheads. They are also searching for an investor to help create the 22 holiday lodges which be a long term investment for the future of the park.

The park suffered serious storm damage on Saturday. A total of 20 trees came down, including 3 massive trees, 2 of which disconnected the park main power supply, whilst the other damaged 2 enclosures which held ,,2 Black and White Lemur and the other housed 8 Wallabies. Fortunately, no animals were injured or escaped. The keepers also had to move the African penguins, Oscar, the Great White Pelican, 2 emus and all of the reptiles because of the lack of electricity.
