Cryptozoology

Your right, they haven't... yet

They've been searching for Bigfoot since Chlidonias started walking the Earth! By now you would think they would've found something OTHER THAN footprints and "Bigfoot scat"! Bigfoot is simply not real (poor Animal Planet fools). Honestly. Even saolas have shown up more than "signs" of Bigfoot presence.

I posted that as a joke. And that sentence refers to homid fossils, not living ape men known by so many names all over the world. Don't you start trying to correct me, too!:D

Don't you start trying to correct me, too!:D

Don't worry, I'm not on the forum to correct people. I found that when I tried to be knowledgeable in fields I had no knowledge of, I very quickly embarrassed myself. Just stating how obvious it is (to me, at least - forget about the hundreds of thousands of people running through their backyards looking for a tall, hairy ape man) that Bigfoot doesn't exist.

as far as I know the recent fossil mammal record for North America is very well-documented. It is highly unlikely there are undiscovered fossil hominids to be found there (from the Pleistocene, which is probably the only option).

Also, you shouldn't look upon things as "being corrected" but more as "broadening your understanding". Everyone learns new things every day.

Don't think of it as embarrassing yourself, think of it as posted things that are probably wrong and let people give you the correct info. Good way for two high school students like us to get reports done:D:D Its been working for me so far.:D

Claims 'yeti fur' found in cave - Yahoo!7 News
31 October 2012

New claims have been made that DNA tests carried out on what is claimed to be ‘Yeti hair’ suggest it belongs to an unknown mammal, which could be related to man.

The samples of hair were found in a Siberian cave last year, reports the Daily Mail.

“We had ten samples of hair to study, and have concluded that they belong to mammal, but not a human,” said Professor Valentin Sapunov, a prominent Russian cryptozoologist of the Russian State Hydrometeorological Institute.

The hair is not believed to have belonged to any animal known from the region and the Siberian Times reports analysis carried out in both Russia and the United States 'agreed the hair came from a human-like creature which is not a Homo sapien yet is more closely related to man than a monkey’.

The newspaper, which reports the claims were made on a regional Russian government website, added that tests had been carried out in two Universities in Russia and one in the United States.

It reported: “Three world level universities have finished DNA analysis of the hair and said that the hair belongs to a creature which is closer by its biological parameters to Homo sapiens than a monkey. The Yeti's DNA is evidently less than one per cent different to that of a human.”

The hair was believed to have been found in the Azasskaya Cave in the Mourt Shoriya area of Kemerovo region in Siberia last year.

However, some have dismissed the expedition as a PR ploy.

“There was no expedition. The conference participants were accompanied by the press on a field trip to a cave site. It is my opinion that the 'evidence' found in the cave was unreliable," said Jeff Meldrum, a biologist at Idaho State University and cryptozoologist, told The Russian Times.

There have been a number of ‘sightings in the region over the years, with one Siberian fisherman, Vitaly Vershinin, claiming: “We shouted to them - do you need help?

“They just rushed away, all in fur, walking on two legs, making their way through the bushes and with two other limbs, straight up the hill.

“What did we think? It could not be bears, as the bear walks on all-fours, and they ran on two so then they were gone.”

Interesting that they only have cryptozoologists examine the evidence.

My good friend Chlidonias, you should go check the Nonsense thread. Some interesting new evidence on the secret powers of Thylacines was posted last night.:D

According to the article:

"“They just rushed away, all in fur, walking on two legs, making their way through the bushes and with two other limbs, straight up the hill."

Now this is what I have been saying all through the thread: people see SOMETHING, but like in this case, it probably was some rather large forest dwellers wearing animal fur that did not want contact with outsiders.

With regards to the DNA test, it sounds like the original samples were contaminated with the DNA of everything that passed through the cave.

Kemerovo Siberia? The yeti is native to the mountains of Nepal and Tibet. This would be a range extension of several thousand kms.

I call shenanigans.

I agree with all of this.

Now we have all said (some of us multiple times) wiether or not we believe in Cryptids and such but, since I joined the conversation, no one has answered the rest of the question, "would we want to see them in captivity?" While, yes, it would be awesome for a cryptid to be real and for us to be able to go observe it in a zoo or aquarium some where, if it's not for the good of the species, it should not be in captivity. Trust me, I would love nothing more than to be able to go the Beardsley or, to be realistic if they do still exist, the Bronx Zoo and see a Thylacine but only if it's for breeding and conservation purposes.

You guys are gonna love this one!!:D
I just saw this show (don't know why I watched to this point) called Paranormal Paparazzi and they interviewed this "Pet Medium" who claims she can speak and understand animals just by picture. Pictures of Obama's dog and Bigfoot appeared in the pictures shown to her. After "reading" the picture of our good ole' friend Sasquatchagancha, she said that the animal is real and that, worldwide, there are only approximatly 615 individuals left, making them an endangered species. She also said that they know we are searching for them and, just like the Cross River Gorilla, are avoiding us because they want to be left alone and don't want to be discovered by the human race. Can't wait to hear what jbnbsn99 has to say about this!!:D:D

Also, I was watching an episode of Ghost Adventures (actually love that show) and it got me thinking again, what do you guys think about ghosts and such?

ThylacineAlive- I know Sandy has you cooped up, but maybe you can go outside and pick up sticks or something! I don't want you turning into this:

Wow, you really must like jbnbsn99 and Chlidonias, because you sure talk about them a lot . . .

He's just arrived here, and those two have been correcting him pretty well ever since, so he's latched onto them.

It's called 'imprinting'.

For all those with an interest in cryptozoology:
'The Journal of Cryptozoology' has just been launched, edited by the British zoologist-cum-cryptozoologist Karl Shuker. It describes itself as a serious, peer-reviewed publication. (I haven't seen a copy yet, so I can't make any comments on its contents, quality, etc.)
