Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo News 2010

This is pretty enticing. I'm going to have a hard time deciding between Dallas and Fort Worth Zoo when I visit on my honeymoon this summer.

Great map - although it is a big file (those of you with slow computers may not want to try it).

The map shows cheetahs in the habitat that adjoins the cafe and lions in the other one. However, the written article described lions as being seen from the cafe. Do you know which it will be? Or will the lions and cheetahs be rotated between the two exhibits?

Last weekend the lions were on the Cafe side.
The pride is just now getting introduced to the exhibits and beginning to work with the keepers in the "encounter" zone, so things will be different in a few weeks.

And yes, the zoo can switch the animals between exhibits if they wish.

For the time being only the Lions will be next to the cafe due to some quarantine issues.

@Zooplantman: I hadn't visited your website in ages, but I see that you've redesigned it and without a doubt it is a massive improvement! Thanks for the link.

Thanks, snowleopard!

For those of you who did check out that new page: Did you "get" that if you moused over the various Phrases a new picture would appear?
We're trying to find out if the design is working for Visitors
Thanks

zooplantman, yes I got it, it worked! I had not seen your site before so thank you for the link, it was nice to see your work at so many different sites, including the Cal. Academy a few miles away from me! I like your work there, it must have been a challenge in such a relatively tight and intense space. What a contrast to the space of the new Dallas exhibit! I like details you included in the page, especially mentioning the soil mix design and its purpose, which conveys the fact that your work is not just plant selection. When I was working as a landscape architect, it was an uphill battle to convince anyone not familiar with that profession that we do more than go to a nursery and purchase whatever is pretty for sprucing up house entries for homeowners.

Thanks, glad you liked it! I didn't know you were an L.A...
I only get to pick pretty plants at the nursery when I'm shopping for my own yard!

I have to assume though that many here did not get it. Most looked at the page for 5 seconds before I posted my question, and those who looked after stayed for well over a minute.
Something will have to be changed I think

I tried clicking and moving, but only got a message about pictures are copyrighted. :( Maybe try less fancy software? ;)

Hmmm....don't click, just pass the mouse over the titles. The picture and caption will change as long as the mouse is on any title

We actually thought this approach would make it easier for people to look around the page

The Hill in Zoo North

Hey JBN,

I noticed that they have "The Hill" closed off in Zoo North. What are they doing in that area? Are they constructing some new exhibits? Isn't this the area where the future Herpedome is suppose to be going in?

I didn't even know it was closed off. I hardly ever go up there. Were the primate exhibits still open though? I'm assuming so - they were last time I was there.

Hill has been closed for many months, probably since January or February. Herepedome - lol. No such thing will happen.

Primates are not effected by the Hill closing.
