Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo News 2010

The Savanna is going along very nicely! I volunteer at the Zoo during my summers. And I was there when Gypsy had first been introduced to Jenny. And when the Savanna opened! Apparently Gypsy has mingled with Mama previously. Are any new elephants coming for breeding anytime soon? And when should the white rhino habitats be ready for the monorail?

With six elephants at Dallas, it kinda seems like a lot to me. Especially with the shortage of elephants in AZA facilities. And being that all of the elephant (except Mama) have never bred with the youngest being 28 years old - I doubt they will be breeding any of them.

True, true. They brought in an elephant management expert, Greg Terranova. And he said", after the herd has intermingled, and we have aloud all the animals to live together. That is when we would bring in a new breeding cow, and bull."

I can not wait until the giraffes, impala, ostrich, and zebra are able to flow between the two yards. Adding 6 total acres for the elephants and all the other animals!
Also guinea fowl were recently added to the savanna!

Updates!
Births: Grevy's zebra 1.0
Impala 1.0
Arrivals:
Sumatran tiger 1.0 (father of the cubs recently born in Tacoma)
Mandrill 1.0
Cougar 1.0 (now in meso american predators, formerly cat row)
relocated with in the zoo:
Bongo to monorail
Moyo the male Rhino to the elephant's old enclosure

Also... by prying into one of the keepers at the Chimp keeper talk I found that one of the new Chimps from the Rio Grande zoo is pregnant! (they use a human pregnancy test!) this will be the second baby chimp in two years when it is born next spring!

Was it not projected to have one of the minor black rhinos leave for Fort Worth? (this zoo is currently without a breeding male)

Animal transfers are not that ground breaking of news around here unfortunately.

What are some habitats you would like to see at the Dallas zoo? Based on some 2003 master plans, a African Nocturnal house is planned in the WOA and a gigantic expansion to the asian forest of zoo north! White rhinos to the monorail. And possibly hippos? According to the comments on my photo :D

Apparently Patrick is again part of a Bachelor troops (or will be). Two males from locations I'm not aware of have arrived or are arriving at the zoo. Breeding candidates for Makena or Tufani?

@Dallaspachyderm:

Can you tell us more about the masterplan? And can you put a drawing of the masterplan in here (or give us a link)?

Tufani and Makena are no longer at the zoo so I doubt there will be any breeding. The old master plan you are referring to is outdated and not a single element of it was ever implemented.

Yes, I thought that was the case with the master plan. Have they made a new one with CLR?
So this leaves Timbo the lone female?
Do you know any exhibits they are planning for sure?
