I slept in and missed everything, so tell me, what does "Master Planning" mean?

Glad to head Giants mixing is going well.

I assume the rhino talk was re. the southern blacks? The elderly rhino died (name?)?

Conclusion; no more blacks left if and when Moyo is transferred out to Fort Worth?

jbsn: The rhino keeper said that is a possibility
Trowman: They have been having meetings discussing possibilities. And they should be consulting with CLR design soon
Arizona: You should! Hopefully the elephant herd and the hoof stock will be completely intermingled!

0.0.12 bushmasters hatch at zoo
the 2.0 gorillas that arrived came from Toledo
and the 1.0 Mandrill came from Tampa lowrey park!
New commisary opens summer 2011!

I will be spending New Years weekend (all day Saturday and Sunday) at Dallas Zoo to get my own firsthand account of Giants Of The Savannah.

@jbnsn99 and dallaspachyderm - see what you can do to arrange some nice weather for me ;)

Will do;)
Unfortunately, if the weather is under 50 degrees, the elephants will be spending minimal time outside!

In an article in the paper today, Greg Hudson said they are discussing either a major South America exhibit, or a National park themed exhibit! The male tiger from Tacoma will be arriving in the beginning of 2011. While more male gorillas are coming to form a bachelor group of 6-8

I would hope for South America. Ver few zoos seem to give South America any focus or love. With Fort Worth's Texas Wild! I feel a National Park exhibit would be redundant for the metroplex.

Dallas does not have any bears, so National Park could bring in blacks or grizzlies, but South America could feature Andean/Spectacled bears. It would be a nice addition.

Still surprised either of these are getting spoken about before an Asian exhibit.

I hope it will be South America as well. There are enough North American exhibits in this part of the country anyway (Fort Worth, Cameron Park, Caldwell, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Phoenix, ASDM...etc)

Personally if a South American exhibit is built it should not be all indoor, as that might be too similar to the nearby DWA. Maybe it could be divided up into several habitats, some indoors (rainforest), and some outdoors. Exhibiting Spectacled Bears would be cool too.

Every zoo should have an exhibit highlighting its local fauna.

If every zoo did that, then all the zoos in a certain area would start to look like each other. Homogenization of zoos I would think is the last thing any of us want.
