Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo News 2022

Two Arapawa goat kids are on display with their mothers in the Children's Zoo.

The meerkat exhibit is now empty, with the last remaining individual having been sent out to another zoo. Renovation work has started for a new species.

Some of the bird species are beginning to return to exhibit.

From the zoo's social media platforms:
GOOD NEWS: Eagle-eyed Zoo guests may have noticed that some of our birds began returning to their public-facing habitats this week. Since no new cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) have been reported within 100 miles of the Zoo in the past several weeks, we are optimistic the immediate threat has subsided. Penguins are in their pool, and our Wings of Wonder habitats are filling up again. We will slowly bring additional bird species back out into open-air areas in the weeks to come, as long as the HPAI situation remains stable. Our team of veterinarians and zoologists will continue to monitor reports of any HPAI cases in the state, and we will adjust our plans if needed to keep our birds safe and healthy.

Today the zoo posted video footage showing Sumatran tiger cubs Sumini (born in August 2021) and her younger siblings Nety and Rudi (born in December 2021) playing together, stating on social media: "The best times to try to see the energetic trio are on Tuesday, Thursday afternoon, Friday morning, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. The schedule is fluid, but that's the plan for having them on habitat together!"
