Denver Zoo Denver Zoo News 2016

A friendly bet was made between the Denver and North Carolina Zoos in preparation for the two cities' face off in the Super Bowl. If Denver wins, North Carolina's directors have to greet visitors with a sign congratulating Denver's victory. Otherwise if North Carolina wins, Denver's director must wear a Panthers jersey while also greeting visitors with a sign congratulating North Carolina's win.

Great news for the Zoo and for the species! I never really hear/see much about the zoo's apes. From the few photos I've seen the exhibit looks nice, very open and grassy. How would someone who has visited compare the exhibit to others?

Also, I'm sure there's one in the thread already so my apologies if so but I was wondering what some of the people who have visited think about the elephant passage exhibit? It's been open a while now and from what I've seen/heard people generally have mixed opinions about it. I hear the toyota promotion in a little much and that the space is questionable. It looks very aesthetically pleasing from the guest point of view but what are your thoughts about the space for the animals (Elephant's and rhino)?.

I visited this Zoo in August 2014, and it is one of my favorites. I haven't seen a whole lot of gorilla exhibits, but Denver's outdoor habitat is the second best I've seen after Disney's Animal Kingdom. The indoor areas however could use an improvement.

As for Toyota Elephant Passage, if I had a Top 10 Zoo Exhibits list, this would pretty easily make the list. The species on display are great, the exhibits are for the most part great, the immersive feeling is great, and several elements throughout (gibbons swinging overhead, crossing bridge, etc.) are creative and fantastic. While the five main spaces for elephants, rhinos, and tapirs is not the largest, they are decently-sized, and there are plenty of opportunities for enrichment and rotations for them. Other than those exhibits being a little too open, and the disappointing fishing cat and otter exhibits, TEP is a winner for me.

Does anyone know if the zoo's new tiger exhibit is still projected over the summer? I haven't seen any updates about the project or even construction since the plans were anounced. Maybe someone more familiar with the zoo may be aware of the project?

I was a little over a week ago and construction is underway. They had a lot of the main viewing overhead trail steel up and a lot of sitework was happening. If I remember right it was supposed to open this summer... probably late summer based on the work i saw.

I visited yesterday and although the holding building is finished, there is clearly a large amount of exhibit work to be done yet. If it opens this summer I would be surprised, and if it does I would expect that it will open in a very raw form that will need enhancements later!

That's for the update guys! Will this exhibit be the proposed tiger exhibit that's outlined in the master plan?

The Amur tiger exhibit will indeed follow the zoo's master plan, being the first component of the plan's proposed "Asian Predators and Asian Highlands" section that will replace the current hoof stock yards (Mongolian wild horse, Bactrian camel, dromedary camel) between Tropical Discovery and Elephant Passage.
