Zoo announces new Australian exhibit on site of old bird house
"We announced plans today for “Down Under,” an Australian- and New Zealand-themed experience that will allow you to get up-close with many of the region’s diverse—and often extreme—species. At its core will be a walk-through wallaby area where you’ll be immersed in the animals’ habitat, and the Zoo’s first “conservation station,” which will allow you to put into practice conservation learnings and actions. It will also feature new and improved habitats for some of our current residents, including cassowaries and kea, and space for educational programming and small events. "

Interesting plan, hopefully it turns out well, and is able to stand out against Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s similar Australia Walkabout, I think the Cassowary and Kea should help with that, but nonetheless.
 
While I understand the direction zoos are going with immersion/experience-based exhibits rather than species quantity - and don't necessarily disagree with it in theory - it's a bit hard to watch that entire bird-dedicated area get replaced with what will primarily be another roo walk-through. I'm glad they'll have Kea at least, since that's a rarer bird these days.

I agree, the walkabout is getting to be extremely common in many American zoos, and is definitely contributing to the homogenization of much of the AZA. Hopefully they do enough to stand out, especially since it is replacing Bird World, like you said. It mentioned a bit of focus on New Zealand, so perhaps Bird species other than the Kea, although Kiwi and the like are by no means readily accessible for zoos.

The Zoo stated that 70% of the bird collection in the former Bird World is still at Denver, either in newer exhibits or behind the scenes, so not necessarily a huge loss in collection.
 
The Denver Zoo has received two (maybe more?) juvenile Orinoco Crocodiles in what appears to be a release program for the critically endangered species. I would provide more details but the writing on the sign was half erased haha.

On February 27th, the zoo announced that their (0.1) southern tamandua named Winnie has moved from bts to the old Prevost's squirrel exhibit in the Emerald Forest area.

On March 5th, the zoo announced that (0.0.2+?) mossy leaf-tailed geckos were born in the Tropical Discovery building.

On March 31st, it was reported that the zoo will be/has transferred (0.0.33) American bison to the Northern Arapaho Tribe in Wyoming (15), the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes in Oklahoma (17), and the Tall Bull Memorial Council in Colorado (1).

On June 4th, the zoo announced they are in the process of introducing their Somali wild asses to their Grevy's zebras to make a mixed-species exhibit.

On June 10th, the zoo announced that due to lower cases of avian influenza, they have put their Humbolt and African penguins, bald eagles, and some other species back on exhibit.
