Just went today and can confirm there are still giant anteaters, but they're labelled as black crowned night herons.
That likely means they're phasing them out. As for the bat exhibit, I wouldn't trust the map treks unless they're pretty up to date. Otherwise it might just be there from a while ago and they just haven't changed it.Just went today and can confirm there are still giant anteaters, but they're labelled as black crowned night herons.
I’ve thought that for a while. I could easily name a dozen species of mammal that have disappeared from the collection in the past decade, for example, and far fewer new ones have been added. It seems like Detroit is disappointingly phasing out a LOT of animals the past few years...
My thoughts exactly.I find it extremely frustrating. Even their aviary and reptile house doesn't have as much species as before, and visits become even less worthwhile (unlike Toledo has something new every visit)...
They showed the newly renovated exhibit for the two species of uromastyx and Egyptian tortoises today. It looked larger so maybe the king brown snake's exhibit is now part of the new uromastyx and tortoise exhibit? Also for everyone, somebody posted this picture and it's supposed to be from the Detroit Zoo. What species of turtle is this? It looks like some larger Asian turtles I've seen, but not sure.Did Detroit's King Brown snake get transported to Omaha? If so, what was the reasoning for this??
I am sorry, but I think you used the wrong link. This link is for the Woodland Park Zoo baby birds, not for the Japanese Macaque baby.A female Japanese macaque was born June 3:
Woodland Park Zoo Celebrates Birth Of Precious Bird Babies
The baby macaque named Jun, which means “pure” in Japanese, was born to parents Carmen and Haru. She has a big sister, 1-year-old Hana, the first snow monkey birth at the Zoo in 13 years.
Carmen was born at the Detroit Zoo in 2002 and Haru arrived in 2016.
Jun's birth brings the snow monkey troop to 10.
Was anyone able to confirm that the king brown was transferred or is still at Detroit?
I think around 2010?Anyone know when Detroit’s African wild dogs left?
Oof, that’s not as recent as I thought they leftI think around 2010?
