Chester Zoo Diffiycult Species Too See At Chester

I Take it would be African too fit in with the zoning. The condors are going to stick out even more now, are there any plans to move them at any time in the future?

African crowned Eagles for condors and talapoin (or something like) and porcupines for coati.

I can't think of any animals I've never seen, though there are probably some reptiles and amphibians I've missed. I seem to think the White-lipped vipers were hard to see, and I've only been once while ROTRA's been open. I guess in that case I've also missed yellow mongoose, but that's because I've not been in a while.

I can only think of one occasion where i've not seen any jaguars.

Just going back to the Coati (sorry for taking it off-topic again!), according to ISIS, Chester doesn't keep a male at all. Are there plans to bring one in for the 'bear' group?

Does anyone know how many coatis actually live in the bear enclosure? I think I've only seen literally about three or four at any one time.

Only when there is a need to breed baby coatis, he may be arriving this year, or it may be next year.

If they had a bigger group(Coatis) they might make a better display. In the wild they seem to live in large bands- 20/30 animals and it might make them more confident if they were exhibited like that. (Marwell's group, not in a mioxed exhibit, I remember was always very active and showed themselves well) Maybe Chester's are a bit nervous of the bears?.

The group was split to see how coatis would interact with the bears. The females in with the bears will form the zoo's breeding group.

Bloodycurtus: You said a few months ago that you ought to see the caiman lizards.

Tempest: the coatis are in two groups 0.8 and 0.7, can't remember which group is where though.

There are definate snake gaps in my photo collection and phot-wise a lot of the birds. Some of the advertised things like giant centipedes and stingrays used in the handful of animal examples I have never seen come across existing.

I saw bush dogs 9 years ago but not yet in the last year... and I think i have seen mallorcan midwife spawn but not the toad. I dont know what I thought I saw in the sand lizard exhibit if that's what one looks like.

OT but what's the happenings with Tejas lately?

I've become entirely detached since December... missed three visits cos of illness and then couldn't make them up due to lack of time... I so need a car.

Jelle, the lions remained as a pair even when Tejas was being hand-reared and according to the zoo's presentations, Asha and Asoka mated very shortly after Tejas was taken away, so hopefully we can have mother-raised cubs very soon!

Back on-topic, I don't understand why everyone struggles to see the bush dogs, I usually see them, but it is usually late in the day...

I've only been to Chester once in the last 3 years- but I saw the Bush Dogs without even thinking about it. Have also seen them several times at Twycross and somewhere else (i forget where) too.

I have seen bush dogs three times I think, once in the new exhibit and twice in the old. i saw them at twycross no problems, but at twycross you can see their indoor quarters. I missed them at Edinburgh.

I think they spend a lot of the day sleeping off view at chester, in the tunnels, or their indoor area.
