Doctor Who Discussion

So, this week's episode:

The worst so far!

The usually dependable Mark Gatiss really was a let down - the whole thing was just so fake and unrealistic. And what are the new daleks doing, they look like the hunch-backed extras in the Sony Bravia advert! Ian Mcneice was alright for churchill I thought but not great. The episode's ending was pretty contrived and pathetic and the idea that three WWII spitfires could be prepared to fight a dalek ship hidden in outer space in about three seconds was just ridiculous. Having said this, the war rooms set was very believeable (though the dalek ship looked like the nearest empty office interior). Also, why have they again not given a proper explanation for the dalek's survival - how are they still alive when the doctor (other doctor) blasted them all out of the sky?

So yes, very disappointing and worrying that the series has got consistently worse as it's gone on. Having said this, next week's episode features the return of the Weeping Angels and Professor Riversong and looks from the trailers to be excellent. All I can say is that after Victory of the Daleks (though the daleks weren't actually victorius???) it needs to be!

Hix, don't read. Spoilers!!

Whilst I agree entirely (except for the series having gotten worse and worse - I loved The Beast Below) it is refreshing to have an episode where it's obvious the Daleks are going to come back in force and not just, they'll turn up with no explanation as to how they can possibly exist. But it didnt feel like a proper story to me. It felt like a set up of another story to come.

And I dont rate the new Daleks at all - blatantly just to push toy sales. There was nothing wrong with the old ones, although I do appreciate SM giving the old version an onscreen killing, rather than it just being with the new ones turning up and forgetting about the old lot completely.

The only good thing about the new lot was that it was refreshing to finally see more than three on-screen!

At least they won't be turning up for a few years - Moffat's word. While the daleks may be slightly chunky, I like the reference to the Cushing era in their design.

Verdicit of Victory of the Daleks: 8/10

I loved it personally. Didn't know much about how churchill acted but I think Ian McNeice did very well and had great dynamic with Matt and Karen. I must admit, the spitfires in space did have it's problems, like the length of time it took for them to get into space and how the pilots seemed at home flying about in space. But at least they had a good idea in the gravity bubbles.
The new daleks were a bit WTF the first few minutes but then they grew on me and I realised these were the original ones. I of course knew they were coming because the brilliantly stupid people at Radio times decided to ruin the surprise. Did u see it Zambar?

It was a victory. They planned to become pure and escape to build themselves up into the full-fledged empire from the classic series. The Doctor could have had them destroyed there and then forever but choose to save the Earth instead. They escaped, therefore their plan succeeded ala a victory. They know the Doctor too well ya see.

Highlights include Dalek asking
WOULD YOU LIKE A CUP OF TEEEEEEAAAAAAA??!!

And then when the Doctor started hitting it it shouted
YOU DO NOT REQUIRE TEEEEAAA??!!!

:D:p I want a butler Dalek. Plus the whole jammy dodger scene and the Doctor giving out a clumsiy uppercut and hurting his hand. BTW first time the sonic WASN'T used in an episode???:eek:

Luckily I didn't see the radio times covers, but you'd think they'd learn after the Dalek Sec mess. >:( And lol, judging by the discussion board on Doctor Who Magazine's facebook it seems most fans don't agree with us. :p

Intrigued to see where this thing about Amy not remembering the 2009 dalek invasion goes.

Oh, brilliant, Jo was great! :D Next they better give Ace a proper appearence in Doctor Who. :)

Yeah....wonder if ARCHELON gets a mention:lol:

Empty your PM box Zambar ;) I tried sending this too you

Oh Hiyas!!:P

DPFAR

I just got the first 3 11th Doctor and Amy novels. I pre-ordered them, thats why I have them 2 days early

Apollo 23, which I've started reading is quite good so far. I was worried it would be too early to capture the Doctors personalitly but nope I can actually picture Matt Smith delivering these lines and Amy is also written well

Looking forward to reading the other 2

The Forgotton Army
Night of the Humans

Agreed to above statements, this is what should define the Moffat era! :D

Got my new DWM today in the post, with preview of the next 4 episodes. Must say that I'm not entirely sure on these silurians though, bit too human-like.

Indeed. I also loved the last episode. First one yet that I've truley gone, 'Yeah, that was a good'n' even with the little cartoon Norton.

Haha, watched it on HD, so no Norton for me. :p

Yep, The Vampires of Venice, Amy's Choice and The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood are the ones after this week's.
