Doctor Who Discussion

This is off-topic but for anyone in Australia collecting DVDs of the original series, I just learnt that next week a new box set will be in stores, consisting of "The Space Museum" and "The Chase" (both the First Doctor, and back-to-back stories). In June another Box set called Myths and Legends will be released with three stories - "The Time Monster" (3rd Doctor), "Underworld", and "The Horns of Nimon" (both 4th Doctor).

:p

Just started reading this thread (I don't really investigate Zoo Cafe).
I'm an original Doctor Who fan, like Hix, and I think the new series, since 2005 has been fantastic.

Favourite Doctors: Jon Petwee, Patrick Troughton, Matt Smith (Yes, I actually prefer Smith to Tennant!)

Favourite Monsters: Cybermen, Ice Warriors, Zygons

Favourite stories: Classic: Talons of Weng-Chiang, Seeds of Doom,
Web of Fear, The Daemons, amongst many many
others!
New: Impossible Planet/Satan Pit, Tooth & Claw,
Empty Child/Doctor Dances, Shakespeare Code,
among many.

I must admit I really don't like the new title sequence. I thought it was going to more of a time vortex thing, like the adverts prior to the current series starting. To have a cloud tunnel is very disappointing!
As someone who has watched the series for the last 30-odd years, I find Matt Smith fascinating to watch. Very 'Doctorish', in a Troughton kind of way.
I definitely don't like the new Daleks! They seem to have gone too far away from the original design. Not mad on them being all multi-coloured either.
I think the only story that hasn't gripped me this series was "The Beast Below", other than that, it's all been excellent. Can't wait for the Pandorica to open tonight.........

DPFAR:

Come on? No body want to share their opinions on the finale?
Or has the crack consumed everyone and erased ya!:P

well surprisingly, we're not too far behind the UK in the latest Dr Who series: the final was just on the other night. I liked it. Don't want to give away any spoilers to Hix, but Amy looked damn hot walking up to the TARDIS control in her wedding dress just near the end! I thought it would have been more interesting if Rory had retained...um, his "condition" (trying to avoid spoilers! :D), instead of everything returning to what would have been normal.

In terms of overall Dr Who preferences, my favourite Doctor is Peter Davison but I do like David Tennant a lot too. I didn't like Matt Smith at all when he first appeared - too much of a zombie look with his bloodless face and oddly-shaped head - but like all Dr Who actors he fitted the role almost straight away once getting into the first episode.

Least favourite Doctor, an opinion shared by the majority of fans: Colin Baker

Best companion without question was Leela, closely followed by Victoria (from the Patrick Troughton era, so well before the ken of most of the enthusiasts on here, excepting Hix and Bwassa and probably a couple of others). Best male companion was Jamie.

Worst companion: Adric. I'll never forgive him for wiping out the dinosaurs! :D
oh, and that horrible shrieking harpy woman, what was her name....Donna Noble? Ugh!

Zoe! I forgot little Zoe (late 60's). She was a gorgeous companion.

:p

Only watched it since Christopher Eccleston, but out of the ones I've seen then:

Best Doctor: David Tennant (but probably because we've only known CE and MS for 1 season each)

Best Female Companion: Can't really decide, but I like Amy and Rose the best I think.

Best Male Companion: Rory Williams. Infact, my fave character from the last series :)

Best Enemy: Cybermen by a long shot :D

Best Stories: Human Nature/Family of Blood. Blink. Turn Left

There's a freaking Doctor Who discussion on ZooChat! Timelords help us all!
I lurve Doctor Who with every ounce of my being! If I ever get to name an animal ever again, Im calling it The Doctor.
My favorite episode has to be Blink, and then Silence in the Library, and then The End of Time (special).
So, who else can't wait for Christmas simply for the fact that Docotr Who returns?

My favourite storis are
1)The caves of Androzani
2)Pyramids of Mars
3)Resurrection of the Daleks
The best enemies:
1)Vashta Nerada
2)Sutekh
3)Daleks(the old series ones)
The best Doctors
1)Tom Baker
2)Peter Davidson
3)Sylverster McCoy
The best companions
1)Sarah Jane Smith
2)Turlogh
3)Ace

Believe it's spelt Sharaz Jek by the way. ;)

Oh and I'm gonna be extra geeky by changing the order of my top three Doctors. :p

Matt Smith
Tom Baker
Sylvester McCoy

wow, two people in a row listing Sylvester McCoy near the top of best Doctors? Has the world gone mad!? :D

I was just joking :) Sylvester McCoy's fine as a Doctor. I wonder if anyone would have Colin Baker in the top five though?

I watched Remembrance of the Daleks, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy and Survival on YouTube recentley and absolutely loved them; I think the show started to get good again by 1988, but as it was hard to shake off the reputation it had gained nothing really could have stopped it's cancellation. Plus the recent McCoy interview in DWM, that was very insightful.

I like all Doctors; they're aren't any really bad ones as such, they all fill a niche. Colin's round the bottom of mine, but I can appreciate his Doctor despite many of the stories he was given.

No,he was one of the worst doctors but some of his scripts were good (Attack of the cybermen,Vengeance on Varos,The two doctors and Revelation of the daleks).

What do you think about writers?
My favourite are
1)Robert Holmes
2)Eric Saward
3)Steven Moffat
The worst are
1)Glenn McCoy
2)Pip and Jane Baker
3)Russel T Davies

What do you think of the RTD's era?I like some episodes,in my opinion these are good:
Dalek,Father's day,The empty child/the Doctor dances(series 1)
The girl in the fireplace,Rise of the Cybermen/The age of steel,The impossible planet/The Satan pit(series 2)
42,Human Nature/The Family of Blood,Blink(series 3)
Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead(series 4)
These are acceptable
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways(series 1)
Shool reunion(series 2)
nothing(series 3)
The Sontaran stratagem/The poison sky(series 4)
The waters of Mars(Special's season)
The others in my opinion are terrible.

Not sure if anybody will care, but thought I'd say it anyway:

A couple of days ago I bought the Third Doctor story "Dr Who and the Mutants" plus "K9 Tales" which contains "The Invisible Enemy" (a story that does not appear to have been released on it's own).

With those purchases, I now own every Dr Who story (from the original series) that is available on DVD in Australia.

Until March 3rd when the First Doctor story "The Ark" will be released. And I will snap that one up PDQ.

:p

Actually, I don't think Colin Baker was that bad. However, the character of the Sixth Doctor was what I didn't like. Why the writers made him an egocentric, snobby know-all is beyond me.
