Doctor who

At the risk of appearing ancient, I remember Doctor Who the first time around! The Daleks were never as cool in the original series. My favourite episode of series 4 has been the Sontaran 2 parter. One of my earliest childhood memories is of watching a Sontaran called Field Major Styre. That was way back in 1975!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bwassa I can also remember Dr Who from 1963 until the original show was ended in the 1980s.

The Sontaran experiment with Field Major Styre was repeated earlier this year on one of the Sky channels. They showed a complete series each of 12,13 and 14 apart form Genesis of the Daleks (season 12) and The Talons of Weng Cheng (season 14). I was disappointed not to see Genesis of the Daleks again.

I always thought the Master was a one time character, but according to the article he has been around since, 1971, ?

we haven't had the episode with the new Master over here in NZ yet. For those members familiar with the older series', how does he compare to the "real" Masters (I mean, the new one didn't even have a goatee for crying out loud!)

Just to clear up anything, The Master I'm talking about is a Timelord and disguises himself as Henry Saxon, he becomes the leader of England,

The Master will always be, for me anyway, dear old Roger Delgado, who first introduced the character during the Jon Pertwee era. He played the Master for 8 stories from 1971 until 1973. Later that year he was sadly killed in a car crash whilst filming in Turkey. Once you've seen him in action, nobody else comes close, no matter how good they are!:)

Pity you didn't get to see Talons of Weng-Chiang, Bongorob, as it's one of Tom Baker's best! I'd say it's one of the best stories of the whole original series!

I like the new Doctor Who but I prefer the original series. I remember as a child aged around 6 or 7 going to a shopping centre to see a real Dalek. They didn't seen so frightening in real life as on the TV.

Rob, would you be able to remeber the first time a Dalek was introduced? Was it like the second episode?

Yes doctor who is on sunday, the preview showed Martha calling the Doctor back hope this is interesting,

I managed recently to see this long-running show for the first time, whole three minutes. Hilarious! Is it supposed to be a little tongue-in-cheek? Saltshaker, plumber and all?

It is supposed to be tongue in cheek Jurek7

Dragon(ele)nerd the episode you are referring to is the attempted conquest of earth by the Sontarans.

Dr Who & Blakes Seven

Blakes Seven is I think currently being remade???

During watching a recent Dr Who episode my girlfriend asked me why the tardis was a telephone box and I remembered that actually it was supposed to change to disguise itself but got stuck as a British 50s Police Box. This is never referred to anymore. In fact, the master used to have a tradis which did exactly that, ie changed to fit in with surroundings.

Also, there was a timke when the Doctor (John Pertwee/ Tom Baker) was exciled on earth (by the timelordds) for 2 or 3 whole series (I thin it was something to do with lack of special effects funds at the BBC). He lived in the same place for all that time on an army base I think. This was when I first became aware of the programme as a kid and spent a long time wondering what the hell the tardis was form, cause it never went anywhere!!
