After a female-calf born to the Java-bantengs on Sept. 16 last year, the second breeding-female gave birth to a male calf on Dec. 24. The small herd at Dresden now contains 5 animals - breeding-bull, 2 breeding-cows and the 2 calfs.
On February the 18th Shensi takin Chendu gave birth to a male, he was given the name Dagu. According to the Instagram post Dagu is the eighth successful birth of this species at the zoo.

Dresden Zoo keeps Golden Takin, not Shensi-Takin.![]()
A male Banteng has been born to female Zensi. The calf has been named ‘Doug’![]()
Just to clarify, they are golden takins.In December the zoo received 2-year old male Bian Fu from Zoo Liberec, he will become the new breeding male. The current breeding male, 12-year old Chen has been sterilised but potentially mated with the females before this procedure took place.
