Dudley Zoological Gardens Dudley Zoological Gardens in 2010

yes I was there yesterday, that's the great (or not so) thing about zoo's we all see different things, but with your viewing I'm glad you've put my mind to rest about the hunting dogs as I was starting to think the Dudley jinx had struck them as well.
Do you know if there are only 2 lynx left now as that's all I see on my visits?

I only saw 2 yesterday, but it was my first visit so I just presumed that 2 was normal

There were 4 but the old boy died, but I've only seen 2 on recent visits.
What was your impression of the place seeing as it was your first visit?

I thought it was definitely a place of highs and lows, but it was much better than I was expecting.

I've posted a full report in the Dudley thread, I'd be interested in yr opinion on my first impressions

When I visited a couple of weeks ago, there were 2 lynxes in the main enclosure and one in the indoor area to the left-hand side of it, next to the Geoffroy's cat enclosure. This was also the case when I visited in February this year.

Mhale,
Thanks for that, I do always look in their pen to see if any are inside, but I couldn't see any, but he must have been hiding in there someplace I couldn't see, glad to know all 3 are still ok.

Both times, he has been in the front left-hand corner, under the window. Short people like myself can only see a small bit of tufted ear, but for the less vertically challenged, I understand it is possible to see him :D

Yep, I know where he lies, and all I see is usually the tuft, but even my 5'8'' failed to see him this time:(

How is the macaque coping? Is it the larger one or the smaller one (sorry don't know their names)? I know the larger one is very dominant over the smaller one. How much more bad luck can Dudley take!

Macaque

She seemed to be coping fine, getting around easily eating easily, not long happened as the stitches are still in.

Went today and not much to report to everyone
There are still 3 male lynxs and 3 male Wild dogs
The macaque female is doing fine with her injury
doing some refurbishing in the Snow Leopard over night enclosures
Primate house outside having some new climbing frames put in
Red Panda's doing fine keepers have seen the cub popping his/her head out of the box.
That's all

New arrivals in the Primate House

4 macaques mother and siblings (2 sons 1 daughter) don't know where they came from yet same species as the 2 females in the outdoor enclosure these will be released into the same enclosure once the quarentine is over.

They are in the Primate House that has just been refurbished you can see them in the outdoor enclosure but the primate house is still locked off on that side
You are still able to go inside and see the Mongoose Lemurs.

Otters it seems the reason they have not moved as yet is due to the fact that they have just given birth to 3 more hence they decided to keep them where they are

Saw the Red Panda Cub for the first time today he is about 3 months old and named Yogi (photographs in gallery)

I was wondering if anyone could help me I noticed t the rear of the Red Panda enclosure towards the top there is an area that seems to go under the path that leads to the Primate House does anyone know what used to be there.

Saw all 3 lynx in the outdoor enclosure together this is the first time for ages still no sightings of the porcupines in the outdoor enclosure.

Got some good photographs of the Azure Winged Magpie for the first time today what a lovely looking bird it is.

Crested or Sulawesi black macaque asm this is the same species as the 2 females they already have.
Also Dudley Zoo have the following Flamingos
2X Caribbean and 6X Chilean

So Dudley zoo does have a baby Red Panda? If anyone has any information in it, please let me know. I'll be visiting if so :)

Went to Dudley today. The baby red panda, Yogi, was very active. Heard that Sarah the tiger has not been well recently and is giving some cause for concern. On a brighter note, I heard it is possible that one of the lionesses is preganant. Don't know which one. The magpies are getting cheekier than ever - sitting on top of the capybara and annoying it. Very amusing watching the squirrel monkeys trying to snatch the otters' fish.
