Dudley Zoological Gardens Dudley Zoological Gardens in 2011

Can now confirm that the 2 new Camels at the zoo came from Cotswold Wildlife Park and Knowsley Safari Park
There as been another birth at the zoo recently that of a Icelandic Sheep, I have been told that the Porcupines will shortly be moved into the Monkey Tails walk through and will stay in the Otter enclosure once the pool as been filled in. with the Capybara going into the Old Porcupine enclosure.

I think the keeper said 1 male left to go to Longleat only 99% sure so will try and get a friend to find out for definite this Tuesday

This isn't such a big area for the capybara's, the smaller mara's would be better in here IMO. And why take them out of the tapir area anyway??

I think that they are now down to just 3 Capybara and I only saw 4 Mara last time I was there unsure what they are upto but was told to watch this space

Hmmm, well the tapir paddock is certainly a fair size but under used as they are always sleeping in their hut, so maybe put them somewhere else and get something in this paddock that would use it, only problem is the viewing isn't too good .

Latest News..... Tiger Timeshare....
Makari & Tamair have swapped places at Dudley. The move happened Late on Friday and went without a hitch. Makari is already missed by the team up there but after reassesing the situation is was agreed by all that the best thing for Makari was for him to come home to the relative quiet of WHF. Tamair will be a fantastic ambassador for WHF and cared for by the great Team at Dudley.

I dont know about any problems all WHF state is that even Tigers get jealous on holiday,Yes Tamair is indeed another hybrid Amur Tiger.

Could it have been anything to do with the number of visitors cus they seem to say that it was good for him to come back to the quiet of whf

Dudley isn't exactly over run with visitors and the tiger can hide from view if it's a problem so I dont know what this is all about.

They will be in Incas old enclosure and they are coming from 3x Berlin and 1x Zurich is what the keeper told me

Does anyone know if the Giraffes have arrived yet or if there as been anymore new arrivals also have they managed to move Inca yet.
Was hoping to go on Sunday but due to illness in the family will have to put this visit off till a later date.

Edit - Have the Porcupines moved also

A few notes from visit on good friday (22 April):

Two female giraffes arrived on 13th/14th april. Mia and Josie came from Banham Zoo and Africa Alive.

Work on Incas old enclosure was underway for the Geladas

The Macaques were in the primate house as their enclosure is being extended

Nearly all the lemurs were at the primate house and i only saw 6 black and white ruffed lemurs in lemur woods

The amur tiger was hidden the whole day

Actually the Sulwesi Macaques, are in the primate house as they are introducing a group of animals that have arrived from Israel to the animals that the zoo already held. The animlas have either just come out of quarantine of just have a few days to go until they are,and subject to things going okay with the introductions they will be all moved as one group when the extended enclosure is finished in a few weeks time!!

The arrival of 2 female giraffe somewhat puzzles me ...

I know the story of companionship for the pure-bred (and proven) bull, yet it begs 2 question:
A) Are the females sterilised since they are both hybrids.
B) What is the future timeline planning for introduction of the on wish list pure-bred females?
