DWA is pretty well known (by zoochatters at least) for having a ton of species crammed into rather small habitats. It’s just funny how people think that Shedd’s habitats are “inadequate” when a majority of theirs are more spacious and adequate than DWA’s.

I saw that typo and could have sworn I fixed it... It's supposed to say mad (almost made the same typo again)

I thought that was rather odd, too. Especially considering that I can only think of a maximum of 5-7 tanks that were overcrowded, so not sure what "inadequate" meant in that review.
 
Rather charming reviews of Bird Paradise...
We found it hard to spot birds.. The tree cover was very lush and hence it made it even more difficult to spot birds.. We were extremely disappointed with the new project.. Another major drawback was that we experienced mild shocks when we touched the rails on the bridge and doors.. Kids & old citizens reacted negatively when they experienced a shock and we noticed that a few kids cried as well..

It was advertised that almost 3000 species of birds were available but we could hardly spot them..

Even the amphitheater activity was dull& boring and the hot temperature made matters worst!!!

We really miss the old Jurong Bird Park! We were disappointed with our visit and hopefully things would be improved.



Firstly, there are 400 species, not 3000 species!
Second, do you expect to see everything?
 
A recent NC Zoo one:

I hate to say it but if I could give it ZERO stars that's what it would get. I have probably been to more Zoo's than 80% of the general public and this is the worst I have seen. I have waited to go to this Zoo for 6 years now and ended up leaving without even going completely through it. We went in the North American entrance and at first it was like okay this may be good and after seeing the alligators it went south. The enclosures are small, look outdated, and just blah when you look at them. You spend more time walking than actually seeing animals here. Way to spaced out, poor connections from exhibit to exhibit, one exhibit closed, Asian exhibit doesn't open until 2026, I could go on and on but this review is already long enough.

One bright spot.......the puffins and how they seem to fly under the water. It's a small exhibit but that's where we actually spent the longest amount of time.

For better entertainment........buy a Jack Russell terrier and a chicken and watch the dog chase it around in the back yard.

If you say you've been to more zoos than 80% of the general public and rate the NC Zoo as the worst, then what zoos have you been going to?
Also, how can you give an accurate review if you didn't even see the whole zoo?

The first red flag regarding the credibility of the so-called zoo expert is the spelling of the word "zoos". The second is what said "expert" is considering entertainment...
 
Take a gander at this one for Louisville Zoo!

"First time at this zoo. All in all we had a great time. I gave only 1 star because the poor polar bear looked like he was having a heart attack. He was panting really bad. He had a pile of ice on the ground. No pool or water anywhere for him to get into. Very sad. Something needs to change for this polar bear."

Louisville Zoo's only polar bear at the moment is a she...

Her name is Qannik. And the Grizzly bear/Polar bear enclosures (Louisville has both species and rotates them through the same series of exhibits) are awesome, they're huge and give the bears tons of different things to do.
 
Here's a good one from Houston
"The Lions look underfed. The Orangutang was by himself most of the time...no mate to play with. he looked so bored. He'll come up to the window and just put his face at the window. I had to leave. I was about to cry. If you go to the zoo in New Orleans, it will blow you away. I don't see how anyone can not take care of these animals."

Can you believe it guys?! A solitary animal was.... ALONE?????!!!!! :o WHAAAAA
 
Some charming ones out there:
Disappointed, never know that the singapore zoo animal was so little. My son don't have the chance to see giraffe and zebra.

We reach there about 1.30pm, we spend 1.5hours to river safari, and 2 hours at zoo, we walk until end around 4.50pm to reach the giraffe and zebra place, but there was no animal at all.

My son fell sad and keep asking where giraffe and zebra.

Better wear long pants and long Sleeve, a lot of mosquito.

FYI there are indeed zebras and giraffes in the zoo. Also, if he posted this on Google earth, he can see all the photos of zebras there.
 
At Hamerton zoo park my home zoo there was someone complaining about how the animals had no enrichment and they were malnourished. I don’t believe this personally but I do see that they use fake rocks for primates
 
The following review is rather infamous amongst the zoo community. This was a rather...strange review of BWCP...

The rather mischievous "turtle" in question is a Sulcata by the way.

My 5 year old son and I went on an outing to this (which appeared to be) a lovely attraction to bring young children so they can enjoy viewing the animals. But the day held a different turn for me and I was absolutely disgusted with what I saw in the turtle shelter; a male turtle mating with a female in full view. I planned this day to be a lovely outing viewing the soft furry animals and their habitats only to end up seeing such an unnecessary site.
My 5 year old was not ready to be introduced to this sort of behaviour.

From what I see if you spend enough time around tortoises in zoos then this behaviour is a given every once in a while... even more so than most animals.
But then you lack any other strong point to remove tortoises from zoos...

I remember seeing Aldabra tortoises 'climbing each other' as a child and thought of it as just that. It seemed like just any other amusing animal behavior. Thinking back to it now, of course they were mating, but back then, I had no knowledge of reproduction, so I interpreted it differently, and made up a story for myself that fit my (limited) view of the world. I suspect this is how most children are, which is how zoos have managed to stay as popular attractions for kids despite, 'anatomy' being sometimes in full view. Kids generally just aren't thinking in those terms.

A vivid memory of mine was hearing this behaviour before I even witnessed it. Imagine, if you will, looking into an enclosure and hearing a sound I'd describe as "someone choking very slowly", only to find a pair of Manouria emys doing it inside of their hiding cave, almost beyond the visitor's view.
 
I always just saw it as the animals playing. If the parent has actually gone out of their way to explain this to the boy and why they see it as wrong, they are to blame for creating this unnecessary confusion for a five year old! I'm sure this isn't the case and the likelihood is that they've taken their anger out online which is still strange.

Yeah, I saw a walkthrough video of DWA and was shocked at how small the tank for the devilrays is!
