At least one radiated tortoise hatchling was born on the 6th May and has since been living in the behind-the-scenes area of the zoo.

That's exciting because:
*Gharials are good things
*The species has not been represented in Jersey since 'Menagerie Manor' days
*The zoo has pared its collection down too far in recent years, let's hope this is a sign of things to come....
Such as more UK collections with them please!! (looking at you Crocs of the World + Paignton....)
Crocs of the World for preference - they only need Ganges Gharial to have the full set of gracile-jawed crocodilians, which would make for a very good educational opportunity regarding discussion of parallel evolution in three distinct evolutionary lines (the two Gharial genera, Mecistops, and Crocodylus).
Shame, but hopefully there is a chance they could end up in the UK now!
