Chester Zoo EAZA Ape Campaign Special Event - Saturday 19th February 2011

I would really love to come out but a 2-week notice is to short for me to make the necessary arrangements and make it worth our while financially. Can you hold that one for next ..?

Sadly too short notice even for some who don't have to come so far :(

Unfortunately there was nothing Zoogiraffe or I could do about the short notice, we knew the date a while ago but it took quite some time for the zoo to confirm all the arrangements. Apologies to those who will miss out as a result.

I am looking forward to the day , behind the scenes tours will be very interesting and it will be good to meet up with other Zoo-chatters .

Just to let everyone know, we now only have a couple of places remaining so if you're still sitting on the fence, please get in touch.

Also worth mentioning is that aside from the day being for a charitable cause, a unique opportunity and excellent value - a comparative Keeper for the Day experience is £250 - it's also one of the few times we'll be reliably able to see the Borneans and ask the keepers about Chester's various primates.

old ape house

I first visited the off show dens in 1957,and worked in them in the 60,s. Please rember their age; they were a completely new way of keeping apes. As you go in the corridor ,the first pens were the main chimp group led by elmer , the biggest chimp i have ever seen. There was a second group, the 'misfits'- general trouble makers. Next were the Orangs Jimmy & Paul and their females and last the Eastern lowland gorillas [ at that time thought to be Mountain Gorillas.
Strangers were lucky to get past the chimps without a handful of poo covering them.
Enjoy your visit and use your imagination; it was a great section

I realise that ... and thanx in advance for organising another well-planned and no doubt excellent event both on the 2 of you and all the zoo staff involved.

I just hope you all can take this comment on board for any future events (3-4 weeks advance would just allow us to do so and attend another magnificent day at Chester).

As you all probably know I love and am very passionate about the Chester Zoo, who it cum NZES is run and the way I feel it is at the helm of the world zoo community in forward thinking and operation how modern day zoos can deal with all the modern day challenges we come across.

To each and everyone enjoy on 19/1.

Does anybody know the time the event is to finish?
"The time at which the event ends may vary, so please keep that in mind when making travel arrangements or letting your family or carers know where you are."

We're expecting it to be around the time the zoo would usually close, so 4:30pm approximately. If it's a little earlier than that, people can always spend a short time exploring on their own.

I hear Chester have sent all the animals with apostrophes in their name away to safari park's so I don't think you'll even get to see any elephant's.

Yep, all gone, shame about all the giraffes too! If only they'd stuck to impure apostrophe-free ones.

I plan to call in to the Zoo on the Friday afternoon to catch up with the rest of the collection which I will have time to see on the Saturday .

What an absolutely fantastic opportunity .... I would have dearly loved to attend this but can't find any childcare for my 7 year old next weekend (albeit she is an ape mad and very advanced 7 year old and would have loved this too !)

Hope everyone who goes has a great time ..... please be so kind to post all the behind the scenes photos you're allowed to take - would be very interested to see them.

I would be very surprised if anybody will be allowed to post photos of any of the behind the scences,as we haven`t been allowed to before,so cannot see this one being any different!
