Chester Zoo EAZA Ape Campaign Special Event - Saturday 19th February 2011

What an absolutely fantastic opportunity ....
Thank you, and what a shame you couldn't find anyone to help with your childcare.

To keep everyone in the loop, we now have a couple of places free as someone has PM'd to cancel.

A surprising number of places have been taken by non-ZooChat members and the response here hasn't been quite as supportive as one would have imagined, so I'll remind everyone once more that it's a great way of supporting the ape charity, and of thanking the zoo for all the events we've enjoyed over the past year.

I have to admit that i`m surprised that this isn`t fully booked yet,so come on get your Cheque Books out if you haven`t already and joined this wonderfull day,and help SMR,myself and Tim Rowlands the chance to help Chester Zoo raise some money for this excellent cause, also its a chance for zoochatters to say a thank you to Chester for all the Talks that they have given us over the last 12 months free of charge!!!!

I think the short notice period may have been a problem, I know it unfortunately was in my case (something already booked in on that date). Please note this is not a whine, I appreciate there were good reasons causing the short notice.

I agree the zoo deserves support/thanks on this area and accordingly I'll be looking for a EAZA campaign collection tin to put something in next time I visit.

We appreciate that and it'll be something we look at more carefully in future. The other date we were given actually clashed with another major zoo event so there weren't any alternatives.

Just to put things into perspective, we filled all the places on the bird talk within three days purely from the ZooChat membership, and that also was only announced twelve days before the event itself.

As ZooGiraffe mentioned, people who attended Tim's most recent talk will know that this is our chance to give the zoo something in return for all the free time they've afforded us over the last twelve months, so hunting out a collection tin is an excellent idea. Thanks for suggesting it.

I apologise for my post sounding a bit whiney, it's just that I would really like to go, but can't make that day. Thanks to all for your great efforts in arranging these events, I know it isn't always as straightforward as it might appear to others.

I agree with both zoogiraffe and SMR that at least us ZooChatters can get our cheque books out for a good cause. I will do so too even though I will not be attending. I know it is in a good cause and monies donated are always well spent at Chester. :D

I have - I love primates (just aske poor old SMR who got dragged round all the chester primates and spent a lot more time with them than he ever wanted when he came round with us a few weeks ago :) ) and this is a great oppurtunity for me. I've been on all 3 of the free ones and am more than happy to give something back. Not everyone can sort stuff out so quickly - maybe next time or maybe even make a small donation to EAZA if possible. :)

If anyone who isn't able to come on Saturday would like to donate to the EAZA campaign through Chester Zoo in order to thank them for the free events we've enjoyed over the last year, then please PM me for details.

And I think it's only fair if I drag people around the birds that they return the favour with some primates. ;)

Can I be cheeky and ask if anyone going today gets a chance can you ask whether they have been able to identify the gender of the baby Black Tailed Marmoset and if its been named. As far as I am aware this information hasn't been made public knowledge but I do spend alot of time watching them and only know the parents names.

Would just like to say thankyou to all those involved in this fantastic event!!! I learnt alot and I REALLY enjoyed myself! Once agains, many thanks!

I agree with Paix a brilliant event thanks to SMR,Zoo Giraffe,Tim,Nick and Andy:)I forgot who was in Nicks Possey;)

It's hard to know where to begin... we went round the back in the monkey house, all the levels of RORA, the tamarin/marmosets, the chimps and learned all about the facilities for managing the animals.
We also visited the old chimp & gorilla houses.
We went in the old orang house where the Borneans live.
We went to see the under-construction off-show facilities for small monkeys and got a glimpse of the pied tamarins.

You can't beat a day talking primates and as usual all the Chester staff were so informative, friendly & interesting.

Big thanks to everyone who had a part in making this happen.

Sounds as fantastic as expected, sadly a change in my dad's travel arrangements prevented us from attending but we will definitely keep our eyes peeled for future events.

It was a fantastic event. I had high expectations, but these were far far exceeded! I loved every minute of it. Im still smiling this morning. Getting to see all the off show areas and experiencing some zoo history was fantastic; and seeing the primates from such different perspectives was amazing.

The staff, as always, were welcoming and extremely knowlegdable, and so willing to share with us. Our guide was great and really made the day fantastic.

A big thank you to everyone who helped arrange this great event, both at the zoo and on zoochat.

I can honestly say it's been my best zoo day ever :)

A brilliant day, would just like to say a massive thank you to everybody involved and those that made this fantastic day possible - I got to see the old orang house so that made me very happy :D

I look forward to future events :)

I would like to add my thanks to all involved and say how much I enjoyed the day . RORA is so impressive when you see how it all works from the non-public side . My highlight was Tuan giving his 'long call' from the enclosure under our feet , seems he does not much enjoy having visitors , I have only ever heard that once before in many years of Zoo visiting .
