First visit of the year today and a few points to note:

  • There are actually two Koala joeys, both Inala and Kalari (female Koala's) have given birth, one of the joeys is a female, the other hasn't been sexed yet.
  • There is a Lowland Nyala calf.
  • It appears the 3 male lions haven't been mixed yet with dad Jay still separated from his two sons.
  • Amara (young Pygmy Hippo female) is being crate trained in preparation for a move to a new collection soon.
  • 2.0 Saki Monkeys that were in the Monkey Walkthrough have been moved to another collection, which means there are currently no Saki Monkeys in Edinburgh. The indoor enclosure which previously housed the Saki's is currently being used to house Azara's Agouti for the winter, the outside is empty.
  • There are now only 2.0 Banteng, Tino and his son Struan, I'm not sure what has happened to other male.

Two koala joeys is a nice surprise, wonder if the hippo is moving to one of the ZSL collections?

Well, given that London's female hippo passed away last September, and her enclosure currently remains empty (the hippos always used to be separated), that would be a very welcome move indeed.

News for yesterday’s visit:

• Saw a drill from the back of the temporary red panda exhibit

• According to my mum there are some Bagot goats in the old holding area which was for the zebra and nyala. They are only seen from Corstorphine hill.

• There are still some goats in the normal enclosure.

Oh the Drills are still there

No, neither did. Edinburgh Zoo has said the following on their facebook page (in the comments): "Tanami is the father of Kalari's joey and Dameeli, who moved to Pairi Daiza in Belgium, is the father of Inala's joey".
Isn’t the baby still inbred, being that the sires of Inala and Dameeli share Tanami as their father?
