I'd visited all week for the last time this week, as it was my last summer school before being too old for it
All of the new things I'd noticed or heard about:
- There is a small new sign at the front of the sun bear enclosure about Wojtek, which I thought was a nice touch, though it does not specifically say that he lived in that enclosure, which he did.
- Saw the RRHs in their new enclosure- nice enough, although the entire enclosure is not viewable yet. Personally I do think it was a little bit of a downgrade from their huge enclosure they used to have, but the new inhabitants will be much better suited in it. it doesn't look as if the walk-through part that was in the original pelican enclosure will reopen though, sadly.
- Saw the new titi, which looked comfortable in their new enclosure. The pygmy marmosets have moved into the same enclosure as the Goeldis, and the Cotton-topped moving into the second enclosure from the fourth. The third enclosure is now home to the titis, with the fourth enclosure empty and the cloud rats still in the fifth enclosure (saw them outdoors for the first time ever

)
- We were going to give the enrichment we made to the giraffes, but their indoor enclosure was having its heating fixed, so the giraffes were locked out and we could not give them the enrichment, instead giving it to Qabid the rhino, who really enjoyed tearing them apart.
- One side of living links was closed off, although I could not see what they were doing.
- The armadillos are still in the former male koala enclosures. Does anyone know when these refurbishments to the house will take place?
- As already said briefly in this post, the former Red river hog enclosure is closed off for refurbishment for a new species, thought to be cheetah. The African aviary viewing area next to it is closed off, and I could see some new wood had been put in the new enclosure replacing the old stuff.
- As already said further up, the dart frogs, corn snake, Milksnake and axolotl are no longer there, which Macleay's spectre and lime green stick insects newly put in. The new zebra enclosure seems to be progressing nicely.
- The chimp group seems to be coping well with Rene's death. Qafzeh was back with the rest of the troop by the Monday, and they all seemed to be acting fairly normally. Rene's sign has been removed from the chimp troop ID board as well.
- I was very happy to see that they corrected the very poor labelling of a
tuskless Female Asian Elephant as an African elephant, but it has been corrected. Someone must have written a complaint to the zoo about it. Just a shame that it is nearly the end of the Lego displays.
- Warty pigs are back in the enclosure that the RRHs were in temporarily. I'm not sure where the warties were during the river hog's stay.
