I know I’m super late, but they are most active between 4 and 5. There is usually only one on exhibit at a time. When not active, you can typically still see one sleeping under one of the shade structures. The one in the corner, closest to the porcupines, is their favorite spot.
As for news, unfortunately one of the Jacob Sheep, Mercutio, has died of old age. He was the one with 4 large, symmetrical horns. He was over 12 years old.

The zoo is going to be closed for January and February. The zoo received a $30 million anonymous gift (!) and will be building the new animal hospital / welcome center building starting in January, in hopes of having it complete by 2024 (their 100th anniversary). To build it, they'll need to tear down the current entrance and gift shop, so they'll be closing to get started on that and then using a new, temporary entrance away from the construction starting in March. The zoo does have a second entrance but it's at the opposite end of the park, away from the parking lots.

On November 12th, the zoo announced they added a new livestream camera in the outdoor jaguar exhibit.

On December 6th, the zoo announced that their (0.0.2) cougars named Russet and Yukon will be transferred to the Saint Louis Zoo in the near future.

Did they have them before? I just know the aviary was previously called “Birds of Paradise”, though they didn’t actually have Birds-of-Paradise in it.
Maybe I'm mistaken because of the name?

On December 15th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) American bison named Francis passed away age 18 due to losing the ability to walk.
The zoo also announced that their (1.0) black-footed ferret named Rey passed away at the age of 6 shortly after surgery that removed a cancerous mass from his tail. The zoo will acquire black-footed ferrets again as part of the master plan.

On January 18th, 2023, the zoo announced that they acquired a (1.0) domestic rabbit (breed not specified) named Karl from Viking Veterinary Services in Pennsylvania which is now used as an animal ambassador.

3.0 alpacas moved into the area across from the playground, where the train used to be. Their names are Redemption Song (white), Lyrical Gangsta (brown), and Ringo Starr (black).
... That's what they chose to name the brown one? Yikes
