Proposed change of elephant bulls between Prague and Leipzig is confirmed. At the end of November former breeding bull from Emmen Zoo, currently at Prague "Naing Thein" will go to Lepzig for a breeding loan. Leipzig bull "Mekong" will be send to Prague as a replacement.

Naing Thein (born 1980 in Burma) is still one of the best living breeders in Europe with 15 offsprings (12 still living) during years 1992 - 2005.
 
I think that's a great move, Mekong seems to have a problem with breeding being that his last offspring was born in 2002.
 
Maybe Trinh the mother of Mekongs only offspring ist pregnant, but they are not sure.
But for Leipzig, it's the best that they change the bulls.
 
Perhaps Trinh is pregnant to Calvin during his stay earlier this year. Also is the Leipzig herd all okay together now, beacuse they were having problems a few years ago between the females?
 
I can't confirm problems within the herd but it wouldn't be unlikely after the death of Rhani the matriach.
I personally hope Calvin has impregnant Salvana. To my knowledge she is the female that would liked to be bred the most. Once she is pregnant she gets to go back to Hamburg,

Trinh should be pregnant by Mekong. When she get pregnant, Calvin has already leave the zoo.
Indra/Salvana isn't pregnant, if she has to go back when she is pregnant, nobody is realy sure.
 
On the 24th November african elephants Kinga and Kizia (both 22) were moved from Katowice zoo to Poznan zoo which now makes 2.3 in the new elephant house;

Personally i think they could could do with an expierenced breeding bull for now for breeding, but seems they are building up a good herd.

Also a few days after the africans left, Paris born Thisiam moved from Plock to Katowice, and according to the translation i got from their website they are looking for an asian female for breeding....

Does anyone know of any other planned movings/changes for the rest of the year
 
interesting name Jamuna Toni. Hopefully she's healthy Panang's last two pregnancies have been still births
 
Munich - Panang and her calf are separated. Panang no allowed to drinking. Jumana to be fed with synthetik milk.
 
Are you sure that they are seperated from each other. Munich says she gets synthetik milk, but they don't say that they are seperated.
