Spotted Hyena do actually show themselves. Given the cover that a decent enclosure ought to have (somehow a certain establishment in Leicestershire springs to mind...) both Striped and Brown will disappear in my experience.

Some good news, albeit slightly out of date - it seems from updates to ZTL that the collection has gone into Southern Bald Ibis (Geronticus calvus), and has held the species since at least September 2013. I think it is quite possible that the final individual at Blackbrook Zoo, which had been assumed to have died between February and April 2013, may therefore have moved to this collection.

Some new animals due to go on display this year.
Off of Exmoor Zoo website

Pair of Palawan Leopard Cats in rabies Quarantine. Plan to be
on display by Easter. But I don't know where they plan to build there
enclosure. They also plan to breed them as well.

Yellow throated Martens female pair. Off show, their enclosure is going to
be built near the zoo entrance.

New Crane & Stork Averies complete at the bottom part of the Zoo. They are still working on new enclosures that had been planned for Bush dogs and/or wolves. Website now says they may use this to house other species already in there care.

New birds - Southern Bald Ibis, Pink backed Pelicans and little Bittern.

Groundwork has begun in the field beside the Tapir enclosure. It has to be left to settle until autumn. Still talks of building a Hyena enclosure on this new land. Olf parrot aviaries have also been demolished to make way for this work.

Lake now has a tall glass viewing fence instead of the lower chain fence.

On a sadder note the Maned Wolf female died last month unexpectantly. She wasn't very old, only 6 or 7. The keepers guess it was a brain tumour. They are left with a 3 year old male, they hope to get another female to go with him though. (The website info on the Maned Wolves is wrong. They had two brothers but swapped one of them for the older female - their website still refers to them two brothers).

Fantastic news if ever I have heard it.

According to ZTL , Exmoor now have a pair of black-necked cranes from Blackbrook , though it also shows Blackbrook still holding them . Anybody help on this ?

Well Blackbrook still had 1.1 Black-necked Cranes on the 29/12/2013,I have not heard that they have left since then so this could be an error but I should be going to Blackbrook in a few weeks so can double check that they still have them!

According to the parks map the hyaena enclosure is already labelled, as are the martens. Can't see any mention of the leopard cats though.

Does anyone know if that map is up to date and/or does it include elements of future plans. I could be wrong but I'm sure they went out of Rusty-spotted Cats (shown on map) and hadn't heard of them going back in (would be happy to learn they had though).

I'm guessing that it's showing future developments because I'm certain the hyaena haven't arrived yet and the website states that the yellow-throated martens are still in quarantine. Maybe the rusty-spotted cats may be a typo, possibly should be leopard cats? Just speculation though, I have nothing to back this up with! ;)

Yeah, they went out of the Rusty cats in September 2012. I think it is quite possible their enclosure is the one intended for the leopard cats, although it would be nice were they to have gone back into the species.

The map is mostly correct though it does have some future plans on it.

The marten enclosure hasn't been built yet, but will be where it is on the map.

By the marten enclosure there are owls, on the map it's a lighter green un-numbered box.

Ocelot located between colobus monkeys (5) and bird aviaries (21) it's not listed or shown on the map.

Rusty Cats left the Zoo a while ago, but enclosure remains in place. Overheard a keeper several months ago saying they hoped to get them back.

Coati located between Singing dogs (25) and Otters (22) it's just a light green un-numbered box.

Path that goes up along 30 and comes back between 14 & 15 doesn't exist... Yet.

Grey Wolves (39) this enclosure is still being built. Path that goes over 39 and towards 40 & 41 does not exist yet either.

Hyena enclosure (42) not built either. Old aviaries demolished and ground has been prepared but needs to left until Autumn to settle before work can began on an enclosure. Chances are they won't get Hyena's until later this year or next year, if they do go ahead with construction.

Still quite exciting though to see what they do over the next year or two. I go monthly and it always feels like somethings going on.

Hi,
During the September of 2013 exmoor zoo did hold 1:1 black necked cranes which came from blackbrook however the male developed leg problems. Eventually the pair returned to blackbrook at the beginning of October.

Now that explains why I didn't see them early October when I visited Blackbrook and why they are now back where they have been for the last 15 months at Blackbrook!

A pair of Asian Golden Cats have now gone on show. They are in the Ocelot enclosure. The Ocelot has been taken off show for several months now as he was pulling out his fur. He had nerve issues due to a past injury, he's recovering now though and they plan to place him in a new enclosure hopefully with a female.

The Marten enclosure is nearly complete as well. A new path has been created, it runs past enclosures 14 (Hornbills) & 15(vultures) and back down past enclsosure 30 (rhea, Lechwe and Mara).

Albeit one with a handful of factual inaccuracies :p

I just learned about the Palawan leopard cats from another post. If I get the chance to return to England I might visit Exmoor just to photograph this subspecies.

Visited today

Rusty spotted cats are indeed back now. Only saw one out but believe they have two.

Palawan Leopard Cats on show. But very shy and there's loads of vegetation in/around their enclosure. Only saw one poke its head out of its house briefly.

As mentioned on another thread the Leopard cats are using two parts of the Rusty Cats enclosure. One section is only used for the Rusty Cats now.

More work was being carried out on the potential Hyena and Wolf enclosure areas.

Fantastic news :) hopefully the PLC pair will breed as the Tierpark pair have done, and thus help secure the European population a little more.
