I made my first visit to Exmoor Zoo over the weekend, and was surprised how big the place was. A few bits of news from around the zoo.

The Puma has given birth to triplets on 26/5/15, and they have now started to explore their enclosure.

1.2 Colobus Monkeys are due to arrive from Zoo Parc De Beauval, in the mean time, their house is having a mini extension built on to the side.

2.0 Wolf pups which were born on 17/5/15 are currently taking part in research at Stockholm University, Sweden. These 2 should be the ones that arrive for their new exhibit which is now nearly finished. It is hoped they will arrive at the end of this year or start of next year. Until they arrive the Singing Dogs will be moving into this new enclosure, though they are still in their current enclosure.

The third new enclosure will be filled with Wolverines which have recently been born. The enclosure is not yet finished, and again it is hoped they will be in for the start of 2016.
 
A palm-nut vulture egg was artificially incubated and hatched , with the chick being hand-reared this year . Their Facebook page says this is a first , not certain if this refers to the breeding or the hand-rearing .
 
The Carpathian Lynx is now on show. Its enclosure is what was the Singing dog enclosure. The Singing dogs are in one half of what will be the Wolf enclosure. Not sure what they plan to do, as the Wolves should be arriving soon? The Hyena enclosure and the other (potential Wolverines) enclosure look like they are ready now as well.

Great news, although it is probably a first breeding in a public collection, it is not a UK first , as the species has been bred privately once before apparently.

Althrough it surtainly is a wunderfull archiefment it even not a first breeding in a UK public collection because I found a note that the Welsh Hawking Center - Barry has bred the species and it even is on their sales-list.

I have seen this on their website but do not believe they bred them . The pair are no longer on show and when I saw them on previous visits they were extremely nervous and flighty and displayed in a rather exposed aviary .

I am sure this has been discussed on here before somewhere, and I thought that he had bred them too ?? The pair had been there seven years as of last year I was told. Have they departed from the Welsh Hawking Centre or are they just off-show ??
 
How many Palm Nut Vultures are currently in the UK out of interest ??
Does anyone know?

I know there is a pair (1.1) at Hawk Conservancy.
0.2 at Cotswolds Falconry Centre.
1.2 at Newent.

Any others ????
 
There is a singleton at Thirsk Bird of Prey Centre :)
 
The first UK breeding of a Palm Nut Vulture occured in 2014, the chick was parent-reared in a private collection. The Exmoor breeding may be the first hand-reared perhaps?
 
The two Grey Wolves (brothers) have arrived and are now on show. The Singing dogs have been moved once again to what will be the Hyena enclosure. Several new enclosures are planned. Jaguarundi & Bush Dogs to possibly return as well as adding Serval. The covered seating area by the Leopards/Nut Vultures is being converted into an enclosure. Two of the Puma kittens have moved on. All on the future's looking very exciting at Exmoor Zoo.

Any idea where the Pumas went ??
