Agreed, and whether some of those species could even handle places like the Great Plains (thinking elephants and cheetahs in snow and sub-zero temperatures) seems debatable.
Elephants might do ok in south Texas or parts of California. Zebras (with limited husbandry already do well in both states), although I think Horses and Asses would be better. Cheetahs I would venture would adapt easily to the Great Basin west of the Rockies and the southern Plains. Prey availability would be the issue in most areas. Jackrabbits and Pronghorns.
