Toronto Zoo Fact of the Week.

I'm not to sure it may seem odd but thats what I was told.

I was just thinking, how would the zoo go about introducing another primate species in with the gorillas, since I don't think they've had that much exposure to other species (aside from humans)?

I know Calgary Zoo successfully completed this task (colobus mixed with there gorillas) so its possible

Also, the monkeys are quicker and smaller, so escape options for them would be higher (Climbing faster and higher in the outdoor exhibit, jumping away)

Another option would be to leave the doors slightly open to the holding area (A sort of "creep) so that monkeys could get under and in, but not the gorillas

Got it :) I think a DeBrazza's, Colobus, Patas (previously displayed species!) or Swamp Monkeys (just to name a few) would be great species to exhibit with the gorillas. I love a good mixed species exhibit.

All sounds good, another species would be great! The next update will be Amphibians and Reptiles!

Mayan Temple and Tundra Trek Next!

SO HAPPY to hear about the capybara! We haven't had a birth since 1998 (I think) so if they breed, that would be awesome. Can't wait to find out where they will live in the zoo

So happy to hear of the return of the Capybara -- and the freshwater rays! I remember them back in the mid 90's and before. I believe they were housed by the Octopus.

Looking forward to the Mayan Temple and Tundra Trek updates!

I would really like them to open up the marine room in the American Pavilion sometime soon! I would like to see capybara again. I can't remember what they look like.

I know :( I miss the Octopus - glad to see they're getting them again!

Here's a fine example of a Capybara :) I could be wrong but I think they also have them in the zoo in High Park.
