Favorite Music :)

I like alot of newer songs, I especially like Lady GaGa (Would pay alot to see her in concert)

Those were the days , Dan my dear friend , those were the days , when Music actually was Music , I also was and still am a big fan of Joy division , i even made a trip north whilst i lived in the united kingdom to visit the grave of Ian Curtis he was the voice of all of our alienation and fears ,Siouxsie and the banshees are still my favourite band as they have been for a good few decades or more and i am still very much in love with that wonderful woman siouxsie sioux and her music as i have been for many years

We really do seem to share a lot of common ground as far as music is concerned, Jose!

However, be careful putting modern music down (like you did in your first post), amigo! It might be that you are just getting to ooooooold!

Interesting and touching that you went as far as to visit the grave of Ian Curtis! I don´t know how many nights I spent around 1980 listening to Joy Division until sunrise, playing the same songs over and over again; my particular favorites being "A Means To An End", "She´s Lost Control" and "New Dawn Fades".

Just out of, perhaps morbid, curiosity: was there graffiti all over Ian´s grave, like on Jim Morrison´s grave in Paris?

I'm probably the odd man out on the forum in music tastes. I have pretty much always been a classical music fan, and in particular the symphonic music of the late 1800's and early 1900's. For several years I was a freelance orchestral musician so I've gotten to play a lot of this music. In particular some of my favorites are Mahler, Bruckner, Wagner, Berlioz, Beethoven (you know the heavy German stuff!)

HEY JOSE!

Delete some messages in your ZooChat post-box, please! It is full and I am trying to send you a link to a 1,5 hour Joy Division documentary that has just been shown on Swedish tv and is available to watch on-line (don´t know for how long). It is incredibly interesting and you will love it! I think my first message got through but that did not contain the right link.

Come to think of it, I might as well post the correct link here:

yes indeed we seem to have alot in common Dan my friend. Yes getting older could be something to do with it , in fact my son comments on me being some kind of musical dinosaur stuck in the 70s and 80s heheheehe but as far as adapting to the new is concerned id rather be stuck back in time heheheh , but yes its true i should write of all modern music as being bad because there are some which prove their abilities are just as good as the oldies however they are an endangered species heheehehe. I did indeed feel moved to visit Ian's grave , because much of his music had a profound effect on my life, so i thought it was only fair to pay the great man my respects , posthumously of course. At the time i was living in London , so it was only a matter of taking a train to north of the united kingdom for Cheshire , it was also interesting to explore the north of the UK before ehading back south to London. I also spent many nights listening to joy division , Bahaus and Siouxsie and the banshees amongst others , my favorite songs of joy division are: "Transmission","decades" , "wilderness" and "Isolation". Ian's grave was very small , almost like a plaque as i remember it ,the words engraved were "love will tear us apart".It didnt have any graffiti on it ,thank god, it was however covered in flowers and letters left by adoring fans of my calibre i presume heheheh which was very touching to see.

Thankyou Dan amigo for the link , it is a great documentary , Ive just started watching it. Judging by the first few 20 minutes , its looks like the band members have aged greatly , but i guess we are all getting old hehe. , its a great documentary , if i find any other interesting documentary on any of the old bands ill send it to you. Thanks once again amigo

I actually have a funnstory about that song Cat-man but you have to know the people so it won't make sense to anybody.

What about some songs that make you a little bit sad, or even make you cry.

This first one is IMO one of the the most under-rated song ever. It's so beautiful and I could listen to it over and over.

And I'm sure a lot of people have heard this one.

I hope you enjoy them. :)

I know this thread is old and suty but i juts had to tell someone about the scissor sister's new albulm 'nightwork' it is simply fantastic. It's dark, exciting and hedonistic. I Love it! :D

okay rant over

Eminems latest album is amazing, the Black Eyed Peas are amazing, so is Lady Gaga and so is Rihanna. End of. Maybe abit of Florence and the Machine.

I've been wondering about what sort of Australian music you get in other countries. Most of what we get on commercial radios here is American and a fair bit from the UK. Empire of the Sun have been mentioned. I saw them live earlier this year and they were terrible, easily the worst live act I've ever seen. What about acts like Lisa Mitchell, SIA, Silverchair etc?

My favourite bands are:

Die Ärzte

Farin Urlaub Racing Team

Gauno Apes

Millencolin

The Offspring

The Prodigy

Are you serious? BEP, gaga and rihanna are commercial mainstream crap. There's no argueing about taste, but calling these artists amazing just shows you should listen to a lot of not-mainstream music, where you can hear real music, made by real artists.

@ eagle;

guano apes, offspring and prodigy are great! Recently I have been at a large music festival here in the netherlands ( called pinkpop) where I saw motorhead, rammstein, greenday, slash ( yes, from guns 'n' roses), pink, skunk anansie and a lot more, and most of it was very, very good.

A quick look through this thread reveals only one mention of my favourite band - Muse. They were awesome at Glastonbury this year (I wasn't there but watched them on TV) and I am green with envy that my daughter is going to see them at Wembley in September. She 'discovered' them a couple of years after I did.
You might think that I am well past the age when I should be listening to them and, indeed, my brother told me that I should only listen to music from my youth, so restricting me to a musical diet of songs from the 60s. My reply was that I'd heard them all so many times that I no longer listen to them and I'll carry on tuning into XFM. I think music is there to be enjoyed by everybody.

I do listen to non-mainstreem music and most of the time I find it to be "crap". I have seen two of these live and whether they are mainstreem or not, they are talented, artistic, and (especially Lady Gaga) stand for something.

My favourite band are pendulum! :D
Other favourites:
The Prodigy
Sub Focus
Linkin Park
Green Day
The Killers
Plan B
The Kaiser Chiefs
Dizzee Rascal
Underline the sky (a local band to me that I reckon will be pretty famous soon!)

Sorry to drag this thread up from the dark depths of the Zoo Cafe, but I thought I might share my favourite music. Be warned though, my taste in music is pretty unusual to say the least;

Gorillaz
Florence and the Machine
Foo Fighters
The Killers
U2
Coldplay
Sigur Ros
Witness
Manic Street Preachers
Texas
E.S. Posthumus
Black Eyed Peas
The Automatic
Yes
The Verve
Nomades & Skaetera
The Editors

And now, let us never speak of this again.

A brief question, I also heard some music on the trailer for Life that is due to be shown on Eden, on the Dave Channel. I know the trailer is also on the website, but I haven't got the foggiest idea what the song is called. If anyone could help me out, I will be extremely grateful.
