Felids of the United States

@TinoPup A huge endeavor and one that I (as a cat fanatic) deeply appreciate. Thank you for doing this!

It would be interesting to make a list of top five (or top ten or whatever) most diverse cat collections in USA. Off the top of my head I know Cat Haven has fifteen species and EFBC may have even more. I may do this myself later if I feel motivated.

Thank you for sharing the extensive lists.

Maggie the Margay at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound (EFBC's Feline Conservation Center) passed away around September 2020 (I'm not sure of the exact date).

I am surprised to see Wildlife World and San Diego in the double digit list; I would not have expected that. (You are not combining both San Diego facilities are you?). Sadly many of the best collections are not good for visitors. Some are dumps, some are only open for guided tours, some are closed to the public. In a perfect world there would be a Le Parc Des Felins in America (or it would be easier for Americans like me to relocate to France).

Oh no :( She was still alive per their last post about her, though that was nearly a year ago :( Thank you for the update. Santa Ana's is really old, too.

No, not combining :P That's precisely why I listed all in double digits, instead of just the top 5 - most of the higher ones aren't great places and/or aren't open on a regular basis. There's a few good places in the low double digits, at least.

Sorry if I missed it elsewhere in the thread, but in addition to the Amur Tiger and Canada Lynx, the Alaska Zoo also exhibits Snow Leopards.

Birmingham at last count is 8 - (African Lion, Jaguar, Fishing Cat, Pallas Cat, Black Footed Cat, African Wildcat, Bobcat, Sand Cat) with medium term plans to reacquire Tigers (presumably Malayan) and Cougars.

Are they sending out any of the species when they start building the asian complex?

The Jaguar, Lions, Bobcats and future Cougars wouldn't be in the area the Asian Complex will be. I assume the small cats will all stay as the Asian Complex is still leaving the Predator building mostly intact (Despite a few species not fitting the theme). The Orangs, Tigers, Komodo, Red Pandas, Gibbons and Asian birds getting new/renovated outside exhibits.

Any news on when it is breaking ground?

You're welcome. She was in a normally off exhibit area at EFBC. Not all species in their collection are visible. For example, the Persian leopard and black-footed cats are only visible during adults only Twilight Tours, however, those haven't taken place since the pandemic. They may be visible during a private tour.
