Franklin Park Zoo Franklin Park Zoo news 2025

Is this a guess on your part, or do you have a source?
Due to the location of the current exhibit and holding area, they can’t build into Nature Neighborhood due to Aviary. Only expansion is out beyond the fence to utilize what is there. It’s a guess but mostly due to logistics of current layout.
You can search for the older plan of the entrance, penguin and panda expansion on boston.gov. There are renderings to look at.

Does anyone have have information on the status of the Poitou Donkeys at the Franklin Park Zoo? I didn't see them last week, and they don't appear on the website.

I have some questions;
  • Do we know if there will be new hoofstock species in African Experience?
  • In Kalahari Kingdom, are there Spurred tortoises or yellow-footed tortoises?
  • How much space is in the empty space across from the elephant skeleton?
  • How large is the paddock to the right of the kori bustard?
  • How much usable space is in hoofstock yards?
  • What birds and non butterflies are in Butterfly Hollow?
  • Are the red siskins on exhibit?
  • How much usable space is behind Bird's World?

  • There are no plans for new hoofstock in the African Experience right now, but that could always change.
  • Kalihari has one African Spurred Tortoise. The yellow-foot that was there a few years ago is in education now.
  • Butterfly Hollow only had a couple of ducks and one turtle. I forget which species, but it used to be the Eastern Cooter and maybe marbled teals?
  • Pretty sure the Siskins are still BTS
  • When you say "usable space" what exactly are you referring to? Space for new buildings or exhibits?

Both new exhibits and buildings. Thanks. Are there any other new plans for either facilities (not publicly mentioned?)

I doubt anything is planned as funding is nonexistant unless some donor step in? Penguin and Panda expansion were planned and funds were there for them according to educator lady.
Hope new ceo has great ideas.
