Fresno Chaffee Zoo Fresno Chaffee Zoo News 2023

I never knew that Fresno has had all three (Sumatrans and Javans don’t count, because no exotic place to them has either of them) rhinoceros species in its history! If they did have, Black Rhinos, then that must have been fifty or so years ago.

During my childhood, they did not have any rhinoceros, but yes since the zoo's establishment, they did keep Black, White, and Indian, all three mainstream rhino taxa if you will.

Pardon my digression, but I think it would be awesome to build a Black Rhinoceros exhibit where Canopy Grove Event Venue currently sits.

They Malayan pond turtles came with the tomistoma from riverbanks, they will be housed together at some point. The zoo has one of the tomistoma left, the other passed away from old age.
The 2021 annual report animal collection is already way outdated, as this was before the master plan was implemented.
If you go back and read some of the comments I have previously posted, you’ll realize a lot of information I’ve already posted.

They are not bringing in any more Tomistoma at this time.
The interior building of the rainforest is permanently closed to the general public. Valley farm is undergoing a renovation and should open in a few months after Asia opens.

Is the interior tropic building in the rainforest still being used for any animal holding, or did they empty it of everything?

With the zoo having new exhibits for some of their songbirds (Bali mynas, etc.), Rhinoceros hornbills, and Komodo dragons, this is good preparation for future projects that might be constructed in these areas of the zoo (California, aquarium, conservation corridor etc) due to there being less animals to move around for when construction time comes around!
