The Axolotl is much more common in Zoos than the Lake Patzcuaro Salamander. They are another endangered Amphibian Species that is only found at very few Zoos.

Giant Salamanders are one of the most popular Zoo Amphibians.Unfortunatly there are not many Zoos that do have them. Praha Zoo keeps them in the Giant Salamander House which is also home to other rare chinese Herps.

The Green sea Turtle is the most popular Sea Turtle in european Zoos and Aquariums. They are often kept together with Sharks, Rays and other Lange Fish.

The loggerhead Turtle is the second Sea Turtle Species i have seen at Zoos and public Aquariums.
Some Zoos like the Loro Parque keep rescued Loggerhead Turtles. Most of the Sea Turtles at Loro Parque are released back in to the Ocean when they are strong enough but some Loggerhead Turtles are permanent Rescues that cannot be realeased in the Ocean.

Can be mixed with: Leopard Tortoise, Slender tailed Meerkat
Species seen at: Augsburg Zoo, Landau Reptile Zoo, Bodenseezoo Reuthemühle, Ulm Zoo


The third largest Tortoise Species is often found at european Zoos. Some Zoos like Augsburg and Ulm even keep their Spurred Tortoises outdoors during the summer.

This is a subspecies of the famous Hermanns Tortoise. They are often found at Zoos but they are not as common as the common Hermanns Tortoise.

This is another Species of the African Tortoiseses. Some Zoos keep Egyptian Tortoises that are rescued animals that came from smugglers.

This is the most popular Species of Giant Tortoises. Unfortunatly they are the only species of Zoo Animal that come from the famous Galapagos Islands.

The Star Tortoise is another endangered Tortoise Species in european Zoos. Most Zoos that keep them do keep their Star Tortoises in mixed Terrariums with other asian Reptiles.

The largest european Tortoise is often kept at european Zoos. Most Zoos that do keep them have their Marginated Tortoises in outdoor enclosures where they are kept together with other european Tortoises.

The endangered Radiated Tortoise comes from Madagascar the Island of Lemurs. This makes the Radiated Tortoise to a often kept inhabitant of mixed species Lemur Enclosures.

This very colourfull australian freshwater Turtle is one of my favorite Turtle Species. In european Zoos they are often found in mixed Vivariums together with Fish and many other freshwater Turtles like at Landau Reptile Zoo.

This endangered Turtle is the only Turtle Species in Germany and central Europe. They are sometimes even found in Zoos that have aside from the Turtles no other Reptile Species.

The Red eared Slider is not only a popular pet reptile. They are often kept at Zoos because the Zoos get them from private Pet Keepers. They are often kept in Outdoor Ponds like at Tripsdrill Wildlife and Ulm Zoo.
