they may be dramatically different in size, but im not sure how that translates legitamately into size of enclosures needed for either tiger SS. as it is, im happy to suggest that London could create a sutiable enclosure for amur tigers
the suggestion was that the Whipsnade Siberians and London's Sumatrans could be swapped, but the existing London enclosure is far too small for the much larger Siberians.
You idea of exhibiting Siberians in London, in an enclosure designed along the lines you suggest, is perfectly feasible. I'm just suggesting that a swap could not be done with the existing enclosure. Its true that Siberian tigers do generally make a better exhibit, often being more prominent and willing to display themselves.
Whichever sub species it is, tigers HAVE to stay at Regents park along with lions, in the past 10 years or so too many of the popular species such as elephant, rhino, orang utan, sea lion have left the collection.
With visitor numbers starting to rise quite significantly, the zoo needs to consolidate its current collection, with better housing and bringing in a few new species yes.
In my humble opinion i do think pandas will come to London to tie up with the olympic games, but what will come first a world class olympic stadium or a world class panda exhibit, being British i am pessimistic on both!
Then give the lions a new enclosure if that's the only problem.
The current terraces? Or if you're going by the Wild China basis, then why not the Mappin Terraces or the North Bank? Don't be close-minded.![]()
mmm - this thread was supposed to be about pandas ? Please keep threads on topic or they will be closed
