Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Giraffes

I would of liked for NAZF to send the male they have away (The question is where?) and bringing a new pure bred Reticulated in but I doubt that very much.

Sending the female to a collection holding pure Reticulateds(take your choice from Colchester, Whipsnade, or (is it?)AA) would be better but that isn't why they obtained her as they did.

Noah's Ark doesn't feel like a Zoological 'collection' to me- it is a number of large 'Zoo' animal species (plus a few smaller ones+ domestics) living on a farm. The set-up is very unorthodox and as they are now, I am not sure if they would ever be accepted into the more formal Zoological circles or memberships, or if the plan to keep Elephants will become a reality if they have similar problems finding them as they seem to have had in sourcing some of their other animals- giraffe, tigers etc.

.So now when anyone visits Noahs they can see hybrid Giraffes and zebras all in the same paddock, cannot think of anywhere else in the UK that can make that claim!!!!

I think Africa Alive can claim hybrid Giraffes and Zebra in the same paddock, unless they have in more recent months moved on the hybrid individuals (anyone?)

I believe AA keep their pure breed Giraffes (Reticulated) seperate from the hybrids to prevent what has happened here.

I am sure they do. I imagine their intention is to phase out the hybrids and concentrate on the purebreds as a number of other UK zoos have done/are doing.

Suffolk Wildlife Park maintain a pure herd of Chapman's Zebra, and do not have any Hybrid Zebra within the collection,so my comment stands that Noahs have the only Hybrid Giraffes and Zebras in the UK in the same enclosure

Ah, I see now!!

I initially read your first post as hybrid giraffes and zebra, as in zebra species!!.

Agreed, the UK does still hold a considerable number of hybrids till date. And it is not getting any less any time soon.

Not a fan of shoving off hybrids outside Europe as some French zoos have done (lately and in the past …).

Slightly concerning that NAZF FB post describes "love is in the air for Kito and Gennie" considering he's a hybrid. I'm guessing this could be a publicity stunt esp for the upcoming May 1/2 term holiday

Can anyone tell me what happened to the three male calves and the bull Gerald?

The bull died. I believe the male calves are still there. Dudley described this male as going to a 'bachelor group' so I think they are still there. It would obviously be better if their mother, the pure Reticulated female, could now be allowed to move to a pure group.

Ah yes I just remembered that Gerald had died thank you. As of last week only the female was there, no offspring.

Only the goat was there to keep Genevieve company.
Since then Kito has obviously arrived but there were no signs of the other three males.
