Greensboro Science Center Greensboro Science Center: News & Expansion Updates

Visited the center today, here are the updates.

- I saw the new Eartheaters and the Silver Hooks in the aquarium
- I saw Ronnie the Trumpeter Hornbill for the first time in her exhibit
- I saw the Marbled Catfish in the outdoor Pygmy Hippo exhibit
- 4 Tilapias are now in the leftmost pool in the outdoor Pygmy Hippo exhibit
- The Okapi exhibit expansion has been outlined
- New signage have been placed at the Pygmy Hippo and Fishing Cat exhibits saying they will be indoors if the weather gets to cool
- I saw the Binturong exhibit, but sadly no Binturong

Also, Moana the Cassowary ran around her exhibit at full speed (which I had never seen before) I got some of it on video and you can see it here.

I'm tentatively planning on visiting next month, is there anything I should know before I go? Is there anything coming soon that might be worth waiting for?

Just got this weeks facility updates and this one hurts alot. But first I'll start with the good stuff.

- The process of setting up Winter Wonderlights in the next week or so.

- Footers for the archway art installation will happen Monday and Tuesday.

- A new female otter will be arriving shortly

- Servals Kira and Tut are starting to be introduced

- A new Trumpeter Hornbill named Jazz has arrived

- Hippo introductions have been going great

Now the sad stuff

- Otter Quincy will be leaving us soon to go to Fort Fisher

- Tortoise Journey (as mentioned in post above) went to the Rolling Hills Zoo

- Rooster Hennifer had to be euthanized due to a foot condition and old age.

- Duke the Javan Gibbon will be leaving in the next 6 months

- Komodo Dragon Drogo will be moving to Riverbanks Zoo in the next few months. We will be getting their male Komodo Dragon Dutch.

Is Duke there only Javan Gibbon? Where is he headed?

I'm glad I got to see all 4 Javan gibbons last week when I visited for the first time (and was very impressed by the facility).

Are Ft. Wayne and GCC the only other holders of this species in the western hemisphere?

I believe the Gibbon Conservation Center in California has them, but I don't know if that counts.

Yes, afaik it's only Fort Wayne, Greensboro and the Gibbon Conservation Centre. Fort Wayne have housed the species since 2010 (first bred in 2011), Greensboro since 2012 (first bred in 2013) and the GCC have had a long-standing commitment with Javan Gibbons for several decades now.

Now @OkapiFan, regarding the wolves move to their new home in Florida, do you happen to know about the exact zoo that the science center has plans to move them to. If so, I think that it will be quite interesting to see on how both of them will fare in their new home, post-quarantine of course.
