Ok here are the next three for the competition. Because I'm a good-natured soul, none of these are close crops of a little patch of fur or horn.....

All are I think pretty easy.

you thought a portion of the horn of a Tajik markhor would be easy!!? I'm not looking forward to when you decide to up the stakes and make your posts difficult!!

:D

Maybe I'm too much of a bovid nerd, but I thought it was very obviously a horn so we'd quickly get to which species!

(and it was a species famous for its horns - and only a case of getting to 'markhor' - I wasn't going to knock points off for not saying heptneri :D )

On the other hand, the gannet and the wild boar were guessed much more quickly than I thought. Funny how things turn out.

Right then, here goes...

1. Platypus
2. Quokka
3. Albino long-tailed macaque
obviously too easy!! I thought at least the quokka might hold someone up!

Well done. I can't remember if you've had a turn yet, so if not then extra well done.

(Oh, and the platypus was wild, the quokka was at Perth Zoo, and the macaque was at Malacca Zoo)

I suggest his turn is forfeited. Anyone else who wants to can now post some photos.

Sorry for the long delay- I had all the cropped photos but was tied down doing an essay (the curse of university)...

Anyway, these five photos all came from British collections. Enjoy.

that's OK then, university studies is an acceptable excuse

Wow, DesertRhino150, these are tricky.
1. Is it some sort of amphibian?
2. Fishing Cat (I'm almost certain)
3. I can't decide if it's a primate/carnivore... I'm lost.
4. Toco Toucan? (I can't tell if that's a beak)
5. A fish

Well, I'm stumped... Now watch everyone else get 'um all in one shot. :p

OK, a lot of these are on the right track but not quite there. Only one is correct, but you'll have to try and guess which one. :D

The last one looks like brain coral.

:p

Hix

I'll say number three is a slow loris and number five is a discus

Ok, I´ll try as well. :)

1. Fire-bellied Toad
2. Snow Leopard
3. no idea... could you specify a group?
4. Toco Toucan
5. Azurevase Sponge? Or some different sponge? :-)

Number 1 I'm almost certain is an Oriental Fire-bellied Toad (the brown, more northerly form).

Number 2 is definitely a cat, I think I'm going to try Indian Desert Cat.

Number 3. Hmm. If it were just the left-hand half of the image I'd be certain it was a slow loris of some sort, but I'm struggling to fit the right-hand half into that.

Number 4 - I'm going to say Toco Toucan for now, but I'm not particularly confident.

Number 5 - it's a fish, I'm sure. I recongise the pattern. And I can't place it for the life of me. For the sake of a guess, Mbu Pufferfish??

OK then, 2 correct answers so far!

Number 1 is an Oriental fire-bellied toad at Colchester Zoo

Number 4 is a Toco toucan at Leeds Castle

2- Everyone is right in that it is a cat, but no-one has guessed the right species (none of the answers have even come from the right continent yet, if that is any help)
3- It isn't a primate. That's all I'm going to say now
5- It is a fish, but not a Mbu puffer or discus (sorry Maguari and Chlidonias)

I was sure five was a discus!

Is number two a Geoffroy's cat?
