A new species has arrived at the Gulf Breeze Zoo. A sibling pair of Maned Wolves recently arrived in mid-October: Log into Facebook | Facebook
This is extremely surprising! There's only one place outside AZA with maned, and that's Carson Springs, who likely has former AZA animals that were retired. I'm really curious where these came from.
I doubt it, they are not AZA accredited, they are ZAA.
Good point, I have not been there for quite some time (like 15 years), but it left a lot to be desired at the time. I can see why they opted to go the non-AZA route. I have certainly been to worse places since though, they are, as far as non-AZA goes, probably one of the better places in that regard. They have swapped hippos with a few AZA-accredited facilities in the past, though. Now they have the Maned Wolves as well. They may, like nczoofan said, be surplus animals that have been moved to other facilities. I believe the AZA does an advanced inspection of non-AZA facilities to make sure that they are a safe place for the animals to be transferred to, but I may be mistaken. I do not know if Gulf Breeze Zoo is a good facility or not.

Nothing at all. AZA is the premier Zoo association for the USA. Their rules are stricter, and being non-AZA is an easier route for Gulf Breeze. Why do you say this? What is wrong with the AZA?
