See, I find greys just as beautiful as the reds, unfortunately I think it's a shame that they can't co-exist. I know all the reasons why they can't but I still find them equally as stunning.
Just that reds are a lot rarer and I feel they should be cherished more.
Its interesting that they do seem able to co-exist- for a while- but invariably the Reds start to disappear a few years after the Greys arrive. It doesn't seem the Greys are actully aggressive, but somehow(you know the reasons obviously) they tip the balance. Epickoala says he/she gets both species so must live in one of the 'border zones' where both species occur.
Last year I saw a very healthy-looking Red Squirrel deep in the New Forest, it was miles from any housing etc. In fifty years of observations I have never seen one there before- have a few survived alongside the Greys, or was it some isolated incident?
