Europe has 3 (4 if we include French Guayana) holders of harpy eagles:
Nuremberg
Beauval
Berlin Tierpark
Tierpark seems to be the oldest holder of the 3 remaining, having held them since 1980 and having occasionally bred and acquired specimens from Brazil. Beauval acquired some from Brazil in 2020 for their Equatorial Dome, and Nuremberg has also acquired from the wild. Both the German holders have also received specimens from Wuppertal, which stopped holding them in 2015. According to ZTL, a total of 27 facilities (24 if we don’t count current ones and 28 if we count French Guayana) have held the species. The latest zoo to stop holding the species was Weltvogelpark, which stopped holding the species in 2017.
