Hi,

My name is Quentin, 21 years old, living near Paris.
I'm member of the Actu'zoo team, french forum.
I'm here to share my passion with members of the whole world :D

Bon jour and welcome! I have been to France in 2009 and 2010 to visit Le Parc Des Felins. Cats are my favorites and that is my favorite zoo in the world.

Welcome Quentin to zoochat, i am on actu zoo too, a brilliant site too.

Can I ask how they have got round the Asian Lion studbook rule of that a zoo cannot keep,Asian Lions if they already hold African Lions as the last time I spoke to the studbook holder he wasn't planning,on changing it anytime soon?

The asiatic lion EEP needs new holders and the policy (not rule) to only allow holders who doesn't keep other lions makes it harder to find new holders. If a new institution can prove that they can guarantee that they will keep their asiatic lions FIV free, I'd imagine they'd have a fair chance of being accepted as holders.

Well if they are going to do that it could be the saving of the program, but I didn't get the impression from the studbook holder in september last year that, any collection that already held African Lions would be getting them anytime soon, but I'm prepared to be proved wrong of it happens.

The park founder runs some other cat EEP's himself and this park is so vital to the entire European cat breeding programs that I would imagine they can get whatever they want. Since they have separate asian and african trails within the park, I am sure the two different lions will never come in contact.

As for black footed cats, that is fantastic. That is the only feline species held in U.S. and European zoos that they did not have and I always wondered why not.

Welcome to the Quentin :)

Can I ask a question, do you or any french zoo enthousiast have any clue what the collection of dr. Quinque still consists of?

As far as i know, he held (holds?) quite a lot of kagu, and at some point held the last red uakari in Europe. Does his menagerie still exist?

His menagerie still exist :) But she is private, anybody have pictures or visit them !

http://cavex.free.fr/ there is the website of his association, Academy of the endangered animals (Conservatoire des animaux en voie d'extinction).

We can see uakari's picture and kagu too

Thanks for the site and the information! There's quite a few rare animals in those pictures, next to the uakari (calfbird and king birds' of paradise among them...).

Wonder how much of that collection is still intact and alive. It seems extraordinary for a private keeper though :)
