Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo Henry Doorly Zoo News 2018

BODO was born at Leipzig Zoo in 2009 to sire KLAUS and female LUDMILLA.

He is the brother of HEIDEROSE (* 2012, KLAUS x LUDMILLA), that arrived at Columbus Zoo last week and uncle of female SHIVA at Cleveland Metropark (*2014, SUBODH x LINA) and male NICO (*2014 at Rheine, FRANZ x DEVI) at National Zoo Washington DC.

Omaha zoo releases Carousel Plaza design details

As well as another article about the rhino move. Article mentions that Jontu and Hellary bred for the first time last week before the move and also give some more details on the rhino yards in the new Asian Highlands.

"Two outdoor yards, one 3,200 square-feet and another 21,500 square-feet, will allow for both rhinos to be outside, but kept separate when needed."

"The new Indian rhino area includes a state-of-the-art 3,800 square-foot barn.."

The larger yard will be shared with Pere David's Deer. Looking forward to the opening of the first phase on Memorial Day weekend. Will try to get down there and get some pictures after opening.

I noticed on the map, it says "Future Sea Lion Exhibit" where the bear grotto is currently. The master plan called for new sea lion and polar bear exhibit in that area. I know there is concern about enough polar bears in the US population to sustain new exhibits, but I really hope they did not decide not to build a polar bear exhibit here.

It's additionally possible that they are putting off plans for a new polar bear exhibit for the near future, in case the population doesn't recover. If they go by the current trend, they really shouldn't be planning on a polar bear exhibit because it will most likely have to be filled with brown bears.

Definitely hope she’s found soon!

I’m going to visit on July 3rd and while obviously I want to see everything does anyone have any tips? Like the best time for different exhibits and such?

So I actually visited yesterday and had a fantastic time, the first phase of Asian Highlands Looks great and is a good indication of what is to come with the second phase. I have pictures and can comment more on it if anyone is interested.

I could go on forever with all the things I loved but what surprised me the most was Lied Jungle, the land area for the hippo and tapirs, three water loving species that spend most of their time on land have such small land areas (and yet have had breeding success with the birth of a hippo this year) and the entire understory area was so poorly signed, I honestly expected better after everything I’ve heard lol.

I just uploaded almost 200 new photos of the zoo, and I made sure to focus on the newer sections such as African Grasslands, the 5-acre Children's Adventure Trails, Alaskan Waterpark and Asian Highlands: Phase One. All of those additions are so good that I really do feel as if Omaha is inching ever closer to becoming America's best zoo.

Here is the article from the paper that includes the rendering below.
