Vogelpark Avifauna Hornbills at Avifauna

The kookaburas "hide" a lot in the little house. I've been there many times without seeing them just hearing them ;)

The turkeys are always building. even the surpluss males that are kept without a mate :)

Thanks for the visual tour Trebaruna :D

Cool looking lorikeet house they have. I know that the North Zealand Birdpark in Denmark are planning to do something similar.

Thanks for this Avifauna tour! I really need to go there during my next trip to Netherlands!!
Do you have a species list of the park?
Nope. sorry. thats almost impossible. There are a number of enclosures that have a different inhabitant every time i am there (i go there about 4 times a year). So i never started one. (but you know where to find me if you want to know about e.g. a particular species or something)

No. It's from ISIS. I just spent a week searching for any interesting birds in UK zoos, so I decided to search for Avifauna at the same time

There aren't any many interesting new species in the UK.

Blackbrook's open-billed storks are not listed yet.

Small "papageipark" in Veldhoven, Holland is even better. It is mostly sanctuary for ex-pet parrots, and has some huge aviaries for rehabilitated parrots. One is half hectare big with multi-species parrot mix and goats inside to eat grass. Also dwarf cassowaries, swamp aviaries for cranes build over canal bank, large tropical hall with ****-of-the-rock, calfbird, wattled umbrellabird... Many hornbill species. Strangest of all, most birds are unnamed. I would be very interested in species list there!

@ Bongorob: The list is quite ok, but there are a lot of species that seem to have left the zoo already (or perhaps behind the scenes). So i don't think avifauna on isis is very up to date. But still it gives a nice impression for those who want to get an idea of the park.

The parrotpark (papegaaienpark) called NOP, Nederlandse Opvang Papegaaien (dutch rescue parrots) has a great collection in a not so great setting. But it has improved the last years.
Here is a site of a sort of a "friends of the park" group: Vriendenkring van de NOP - Home
They used to have a board as well, but that seemed to have gone :s There were some pics on it. I'll try to find out what happend to it, perhaps they just relocated it or something. The pics give a nice idea of what the park looks like.

****-of-the-rock

Moderator, you made my day ;)

I definitely agree with Trebaruna.
And I can add that they hold some really rare species such as Roatan Amazons, Wattled umbrellabird, Capuchinbirds and much more... Really unmissable when you come to Netherlands if you love birds!
Check out my website... you'll have an idea of what to expect there!

For the first time 2 Penelopides exarhatus sanfordi hatched at Avifauna. Apperently it´s a first for Europe! (ps; they are on display!)

There was a talk of Avifauna opening nocturnal house with kiwi, frogmouth and australian thick-knee.

Is it open? Is kiwi on display?
