Did not even know they were constructing a Insectarium ?Just thought that Gorillas were the only project currently being built.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Tess, one of our Asian elephants, miscarried two fetuses last night. Tess was nearly halfway through her gestation and regular monitoring by our team indicated that Tess’ pregnancy was developing normally. However, the miscarriage revealed that Tess was carrying two calves. The instance of twin pregnancies in Asian elephants is extremely rare and the survival rate after birth of the calves is exceedingly unlikely.

Our elephant team and veterinary staff will continue to monitor Tess and provide her with care and comfort. The entire Houston Zoo family deeply mourns this loss.

It's to bad Tess miscarried but its likely a blessing because they likely would have lost both calves anyway and if they had gone full term they could have lost Tess as well. At least they didnt lose her. Hope they have better luck next time.

Twins might have been part of the reason she was overweight.
