Houston Zoo Houston Zoo News 2020

Houston is going to kill it with both I imagine. Two sections of the world we don’t see as represented as other areas of the world, these will sure to attract the zoo nerds like us and hopefully the Galapagos exhibit will show off a diversity of species native to the islands instead of just tortoises :)
Sharks/other tropical fish and California sea lions subbing for Galapagos sea lions IIRC.

Other species that have been mentioned have been penguin (fairly certain they have been dropped from the plans), pelican, sea turtle, and iguana. Seems like it'll be a lot of substitutions. Still can be an exhibit with a great conservation and evolution based message though.

you guys... there are photos of the other exhibits in the Pantanal exhibit and Can I just say. WOW. I’m actually speechless, Houston Zoo is going to save 2020 for us zoochaters. I have NEVER seen anything like this ever. They literally raised the bar and it turned out SOOOOOO good. This is as of right now the best zoo exhibit in the country for its kind. And if anyone has any issues with it i will be shocked. Like

The snippets of photos seen on their Twitter page make me want to go badly to Houston! It’s amazing to see another Latin American theme zoo exhibits that are not as readily available as their fellow African or Asian themed exhibits

@Julio C Castro Will the South America's Pantanal exhibit at the Houston Zoo achieve the AZA Exhibit Award sooner this year due to it's delay from Summer to October of this year because of the pandemic?

That’s a weird thing to ask since I don’t work at an AZA institution or involved in the process of who wins these awards o_O haha I know that AZA institutions send in the application as their submission for those awards and I don’t know how they choose what wins the awards. As for when they can submit, I believe it has to be a completed project from the year before or 2 for the year that they want to submit for so for the 2020 awards that happened today morning it would need to be from 2018-2019 I think. This may qualify for next year though. Plus there are usually two major catagories that split into lower and higher budgets: Top Honors and Significant Achievement so who knows what other exhibits will they be considered as contenders so far.
